You don't feel like searching?

I don't feel like answering.

But here is a clue. 7th gen Civics are SOHC. So why ask?

Not always true. Audi makes some nice SOHC engines. But generally speaking, DOHC engines produce more power than SOHC engines. And what is your definiton of "better"?

Well minus well not waste a thread so heres the answer

SOHC = single over head cam

DOHC = double over head cam

DOHC is better than SOHC because each cylinder has 4 "holes/cams" (whats the correct name?) Two of them is for intake, and two is for the exhaust. This is comprared to SOHC where there is only one hole for intake and one for exhaust. Obviously, because DOHC has more "holes" it can inhale and exhale faster which equal faster acceration etc... V-tec also works a lot better with DOHC than SOHC.

Boy I hope Im right.....is noobie still under my name?

I've read from a "VTEC explained" article somewhere that DOHC is not necessarily better than SOHC in terms of performance... It all depends on the application of the engine.

Generally speaking, yeah, DOHC usually generate more HP. But also is much less fuel efficient, etc....

Bottom line is, we don't even have much of a SOHC engine. Our engine is VTEC-E which is an economy version of the real SOHC VTEC... Sucks.

The Civic engines are 16 valve engines. Which by 2nd grade math.... 16 Valves/4 Cylinders = 4 Valves per Cylinder and it's an SOHC.

This it the 7th Gen Civic Board

The 7th Gen Civics have SOHC

An engine swap to DOHC is near impossible

So why ask the question when we are pretty much stuck with SOHC?
