depends on what you plea in court. if you plea guilty the judge might give you probation and send you to drivers school, therefore it will prolly not go on your record. if you plea not guilty and your found guilty it wil go on your record and points will be added. its all up to the judge, i would plea guilty and ask for drivers school. thats the way it works here in knoxville tenn, when i have to go to court over tickets i have written.
Good question - I know I got a ticket for speeding in W. Virginia and it didn't go for my points (I live in Ohio I as well.... coming back from vacation too - but that's another story ) I'm not sure about red lights though.
What I advise you to do--contact your home state's DMV. Tell them you were issued a summons out of state and would like to know if they record out of state convictions. I know that New York State does not, but it varies by state. So call the Ohio DMV and ask them if you plead guilty, would it go on your record.
Thanks guys for your help I will call my bmv on monday. This my first red light ticket the only thing I have had on my record was speeding tickets but they are off my record by now because that was like 6 years ago.
Make sure you pay the ticket though. I live in Ny and I got a ticket in Georgia and they took my license right there and gave me a temporary and said if I dont pay the ticket they will send the license to NY and NY would suspend it and they would put a warrent out for my arrest. I dont know how it works where you live but just pay it.
