custom short shifter setup

so, I finally got around to finishing my short shifter setup. I have had the neuspeed adapter for a few months now, I cut my shifter down to right above the bend, and welded my old threaded piece back on. Just ordered the part # 08999-BAK-100 so I can match the boot up to my new Skunk 2 weighted knob that I ordered. Will post pics shortly! Re: custom short shifter setup

I would never trust a shifter that's been cut and welded. I've seen too many snap off in not so safe circumstances.

Re: custom short shifter setup

If it was welded with the right heat range than the weld is stronger than the metal around it. If it is a bad weld then I would see a safety issue, but his weld looks good

A revo or OBX would have sufficed.

Re: custom short shifter setup

I just wanted to try something different guys, I already had the neupseed adapter so I figured I would just cut the lever....it won't break, I welded the crap out of this thing, worked hard so it would be right.....it will be just fine. Will post pics when I get the adpater and the skunk2 knob! If it does in fact break, I can always get the revo....this will suffice and will work!

No but I wish I could. I understand about the weld being stronger than the original metal if it's done right but in order for him to be right it has to work 100% of the time. In order for him to be wrong, it only has to fail once. I hope it works out and he did what we're afraid to do (I've personally seen this done many times as well as people cutting springs) but I'd still be afraid to drive it. Especially since I know nothing about welding and can't tell by looking at it how good it is.
