The Rav-4 is a good small SUV. The CR-V might be a little bigger but I don't know what you are looking for in terms of size and stuff like that. I'm a Toyota Tech and there have not been any major problems.

Honestly the Rav 4 would be OK in size,..

How is its off road capabilities like in the snow?????? durability???? it looks more rugged than the CRV....

Should I get it in automatic or 5speed?????

I have had great luck with Toyota's, (have only owned Corollas) (4)

The reason I switched back to the Civic (also 4 owned) Is because, the last 2 Corollas I owned during warm weather months required premium fuel to prevent spiking and spark knock. Some will say some spark knock is o.k. and that the knock sensor will take care of the problem. But not for me ! I hate an engine that spikes. Premium fuel would instantly quiet the noise. (my 00 had vvt-i) Other than that they were flawless.

The engine bays on the newer Toyotas are much less complex than Honda's IMO, Not a lot of room, but less items and not as tight.

With the condition of the roads these days I have also been considering something more sturdy. Don't need AWD.

As with any purchase "buyer beware" check it out complete. I rummage through the glovebox searching for clues, trying to find all the info possible. Take a good long test drive as well.

Jhonda has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I bought my wife a 06 Rav 4 but it only has the 4 banger in it the V-6 has around 260hp and does the 1/4mile at around 15.1 stock. Offroad capabilitys not so good. It bottoms out to easy but the 06 is a little bigger than the 04.
