I took my car through a soft cloth car wash the other day, and it ended up coming out with 2 6-7 inch long scrapes on the right rear corner of the bumper.
I always check my car before and after going to the car wash, and there were no marks whatsoever on the car b4 entering. After I noticed the scratch, I compained to the attendants who said that it was impossible for soft cloth to do that -- well duh, ofcourse cloth can't damage like that. That's when we noticed a stray license plate sitting at the bottom of one of the spinners (in the exact same location where my car was damaged). They were still arguing that the license plate could not have scratched my car cause the spinner would not be able to pick it up.... They're not willing to do anything for me. I feel like going there and blowing the M.F.'ing place up. If it happened on their premises, they are responsible. Contact the owner of the establishment by telephone and in writing informing him/her that you will contact your states Attorney General's Office if they fail to remedy the situtation in a satisfactory manner. You really should not have to pay that, and are under no obligation to do so legally.
same thing happened to my truck.....however it only took my body guy 10 minutes to get rid of the scratched by wet sanding and he did not even charge me anything. could not tell it was ever scratched either.
Stick to hand carwashes... the automatic ones are only good if you lease and just want a cheap quick wash... they claim brushless but the clothes pick up debris etc which can still scratch your car... and for your claim go and complain that if a car wash can knock a license plate off it can easily put a scratch on your car
It was the Esso at woodbine and 16th. The car isn't scratched -- it's scraped. 1/4 inch wide by 6-7 inches long of paint has been scraped off. Plus there are several scratches in between that can probably be buffed/wet sanded.
They said that the license plate could not have remained on the spinner long enough to make those scratches. I asked them if they were kinetic physicists
The point was, there was a license plate in the car wash before my car went through. It was their responsibility to remove all potentially dangerous foriegn objects before hand. They are claiming that the scratch must have been there before the car wash. It's their word against mine. Anyways, I talked to the car wash owner, and he also argued that it couldn't have been the license plate. But after raising a stink, and threatening to write to Esso Canada and sue them in small claims court, he agreed to call their insurance company and have them check it out. But still, according to him, their insurance company most likely won't pay. Anyways, for anyone who lives in Markham, Ontario -- don't go to the Esso car wash at woodbine/16th. Infact, I'm boycotting all Esso/Exxon products from now on.... they're not gonna get one red cent from me anymore....
Normally, I never go to soft cloth car washes. The first two washes were done at a touchless. But I've seen bmws and mercedes go through soft cloths without a scratch -- what was so special about my civic?? so I decided to go (it was a couple of bucks cheaper and closer to my house). Boy did I learn my lesson the hard way
If you have the time and the money, you should always wash your car by hand !!
It gets so much cleaner that way!! And chances are, you won't damage your own car
with a spray nozzle and a foaming brush with soft nylon bristles.......
Dude, we don't live in Dallas if you've noticed. I think almost all of us would rather wash our cars ourselves. But when you live in an area where it's below freezing for months on end, washing your car outdoors by hand is just not possible sometimes.
