<< Someone said Canadian's can't produce quality cars? So much for Americans then. Before my Civic i drove 2 generations of buicks/oldsmobiles, and 1 generation of the intrepid. I must tell you this now, both Gens of the buicks fell apart like horse sh|t. First the tranny, then the radio antenna wouldn't go up, then the emergency parking brakes blew out, then the signalers didn't work, then the tranny indicator went haywire, then the powerwindows stopped working. All those in that order for both generations of buicks, 89 and 92. Can americans really make cars? I'll let you decide. When you're wearing Nike shoes are those 'WOW' shoes really NIKE? or are they really 3rd world country produced crap? erm?.
For those that have lemon cars, well it doesn't make the REST of the population of Civics crap. It just means you got bad luck and got a lemon. For those that have no problems then good for you and keep u're civic healthy.
And Ronin.. i'm with ya 100000%. >>
Well, back in the 80's it seemed to be kind of a status symbol for the American yuppies, to be able to acquire a Canadian made Ford. It seemed to be the only acceptable circumstance in which to buy a Ford or any domestic marque for that matter. It also implied that they were able to pull strings, presumably through influential parents, friends, or relatives, to achieve such a feat.
As far as Honda is concerned, I'm not sure that the American/Canadian distinction is as significant. Presumably the reason a Canadian product would be better would be because of some type of societal superiority that manifests itself in the product. Both American Honda and Honda Canada are non union, they both heavily depend on robotic technologies, and are less dependent on labor than UAW/CAW counterparts. And in the end, they are both ultimately controlled from Tokyo.
There is still a labor component though in the finished product. Is this where the Canadian superiority lies in the Honda, or is it superior management, or both? Are Canadians claiming genetic superiority over Americans?
If u hate your civic so much then sell it-but if you do it make sure you do it for something better like an rsx or something of high quality, dont do it for a cheap car like a hyndai, cause you're gonna end up regretting it and the resale on cars other than honda is lousy. Trust me a nissan altima gonna be hard to get the $$ you want for it
man, some of you guys are really funny. first off, you start by saying that the car sucks cuz it had problems such as rattles and squeaks and shiet like that. then u finish it off by saying that it also sucks cuz there is a lack of aftermarket performance parts. not having a strong aftermarket has nuthing to do with the quality of the car, dudes. you shoulda known about this fact before you bought the car. as for all you bashing of the car, you all have to understand that the civic is only an economically-priced car so don't expect fancy materials since all the plastics probably contribute to the rattling and other strange sounds. but first of all, to answer the first guy's comment about having an engineering degree, i also have one , surprising ehhh??? as a matter of fact, my degree is a dual degree in computer engineering and computer science so i guess i know a little about software too. dont think ur a god in this subject matter cuz you have a MECHANICAL ENGINEERING degree cuz it aint anything special. a degree does not mean ur smarter cuz money does not buy intelligence. in your case, this might just be the issue. i must agree with the person who said that this car is like every new software and contains bugs. its just how the world is man, accept it. don't go around saying this car is a POS cuz you look like an ignorant dik since there's a few thousand satisfied owners here. i own a 2k1 civic sedan and i must say that i love it to this date with 26K miles on it. everything still fews great about it. one thing that kinda bothers me is the lack of power but i knew about it and i got what i paid for. the gas mileage is pretty bad for me, like 24mpg and sometimes as low as 21mpg!!! do i regret?? NO. is it a POS??? no. my driving habits might be different than others since i live in NYC and everybody drives like biatches. you gotta think about the big picture dude, and not just rant about every little problem you have. i think you have to be insane to trade in a honda for a suzuki, i should kick ur nuts for that since u are so proud of it. no, suzuki is not a better company than honda. as for some of you, i just think you are upset mainly at yourselves cuz you got ripped at the dealership. i think a person actually paid 30K and some paied close to 19K for an EX. if i were u i woulda gotten a BMW 328 or something. what were u guys thinking. you guys probably get the award for the most idiotic customer of the month award at that dealership. anywaya, you can't say that it hurts more cuz you paid 19K for a lemon while someone else mighta paid 16K for the exact lemon. Getting a lemon hurts in both cases but getting ripped off is just a stupid move on your own behalf. you guys are usually the ones ranting about every little thing and bashing the cars since you feel stupid and need a form of retaliation. well, have fun... and oh yeah, no hard feelings.
<< I still think there is no excuse for the rattles. This continuing comment that you just happened to get a bad one or a lemon is just an excuse. I used to be a loyal Chrysler owner. I owned a Plymouth Horizon, a Dodge Lancer, a Plymouth Sundance and a Dodge Stratus. None of these cars had rattles, although the Lancer had some loose fitting plastic parts which would flap a little on occasion. They has other bugs, but rattling was not one of them. The Plymouth Sundance was the best of the bunch and probably one of the most underrated cars in history. It was equal if not superior to these Civics both in quality of finish and power, and it was a design from 15 years ago. My point it that if Chrysler, with all of its assumed inferiority, could have eliminated rattles in its cars, why can't Honda do the same. I hope that some people from Honda Motor Company are reading message boards like these, because they should be and they should be getting their engineers back to the drawing boards to correct these basic problems. >>
your horizon didnt rattle? my omni (same car) had some rattles, including an extremely loud glove box door rattle

It has been a long time, but I think it actually did have some rattles. The interior was kind of nice for that era of car though. The civic is actually much better overall, except that the types and places of the rattles in the Civic seem more annoying.
I don't seem to be having as much rattling lately, although it still comes and goes. I haven't decided whether I will return to the dealer again about the rattling. Otherwise, the car is running good and mileage seems to be within normal limits.
civics rule best overall value.. most reliable, try spending the same amount and gett'n a focus hehe bet it wont last much beyond that 36k warranty hehe
my regret for the civic is the harsh, bouncy non-comfortable suspension. other than the suspension system, my car is pretty good so far. (guess i am lucky)
every generation of civic owners have had their gripes, but every generation the world expects more and holds them to a higher level ike my LA LAker so dont worry fellow 7geners, our cars rule, and time will certainly be a testament to that.
I have no regrets about purchasing my car. I have yet to have any major problems ::knock on wood:: I almost bought a protege 5, (I had the paperwork done and everything, but backed out...) and I am glad I went with the civic. I have two friends who bought a protege 5 and have had nothing but problems with the both of them...anywayz, as I was saying...I am very happy with my car. I am dissapointed though to hear of all the problems that people are having with the 7th gen, it kinda worries me...
don't worry CivicChick, hondas are great cars and you're right about Mazda, they suck!!!
btw, I don't reqret buying my civic but I do regret not buying a brand new 2k1 integra ls for 16 grand when I had the chance. Much better car in my opinion, and probably one of the best deals we'll see for a very long time. oh well.
<< My only regret is that my wife sells Mary Kay...and they are going to give her a freakin NEW car for free !!! And I bought this Civic for her...lol >>
So a pink bomber will be parked in your driveway???
