My dealer was Greenwich Honda in CT. I basically told them I'd pay INVOICE price if they threw in FOG LIGHTS . SPOILER, IMMOBILIZER and DASH TRIM KIT. They said no prob. I put $1500 down and I am paying 382 a month. I think it's a 8.25 interestrate. Thats the area I got screwed in!!! Final price was about $18.500 but taxes and reg and interest made it closer to 20. I guess I didn't get taken but certainly not a steal.
HONDA CIVIC COUPE EX (LEMON) AUTO w/SRS and ABS
I am completely satisfied with my 2k1 coupe... the only thing that I regret is getting the extended warranty! Why??? Cause I already started voiding it because of all these MODs, stupid me.... but hey, do I have plans on stopping? hell NO!!
as for Ronin, hey man, I completely agree with what you've been saying...
as for speedy, I feel for you man. I'd be ticked off if I got a lemon myself. I know that your first note was just to tell us about what you experienced with your Civic but like Ronin said, "this is the wrong place to be bashing 7th gen civics." If I had your situation, I would've done the same thing but left it at that.... hey, you ended up with the messed up civic but $hit happens. Someone had to end up with it.
The reason why I got my Civic was because I like Hondas and I like the civic. Cheap and reliable, well let's not say cheap, too harsh, let's say "AFFORDABLE!" Reliable, except for the ones they say, "Bad apple!"
Bad apples are always present in all brand new cars. This is my 3rd brand new car and so far, not one bad apple. I guess you can say 'lucky'!
A friend of mine let me drive his Subaru Impreza 2.5RS (the exact same car as the WRX, except without the turbocharger and the scoop in the hood :-P), and let me tell you.... DAMN! It's a NICE car! My parents wouldn't have let me get it anyways, so it's not that I regret getting the civic..... but I REALLY like it nontheless.
There are several cars that drive just as well and perform as well as or outperform the CIVIC in the same price range. MAZDA PROTEGE, SUBARU IMPREZA, NISSAN SENTRA are the best competitive examples. In the end the CIVIC has the best LONG TERM resale value. It's really a personal decision. I think people often don't give other car companies enough of a look. I never would have bought my CIVIC if I had known at the time that the MAZDA PROTEGE 5 was available. I drove it recently and preferred it in every respect. The only edge I think the CIVIC had was a bit of a quicker 0-60 (EX MODEL). At least that's what it says on paper, be damned if I can tell. The PROTEGE outhandled it, outstyled it and offered more standard features for the price. Things like FOG LIGHTS, Low profile tires w/alloys, 4 wheel-disc ABS, rear, chin and side spoilers were all standard.
When buying a car it's best to keep an open mind rather than trust the masses.
Someone said Canadian's can't produce quality cars? So much for Americans then. Before my Civic i drove 2 generations of buicks/oldsmobiles, and 1 generation of the intrepid. I must tell you this now, both Gens of the buicks fell apart like horse sh|t. First the tranny, then the radio antenna wouldn't go up, then the emergency parking brakes blew out, then the signalers didn't work, then the tranny indicator went haywire, then the powerwindows stopped working. All those in that order for both generations of buicks, 89 and 92. Can americans really make cars? I'll let you decide. When you're wearing Nike shoes are those 'WOW' shoes really NIKE? or are they really 3rd world country produced crap? erm?.
For those that have lemon cars, well it doesn't make the REST of the population of Civics crap. It just means you got bad luck and got a lemon. For those that have no problems then good for you and keep u're civic healthy.
I am very happy with my civic and the 5 other hondas I owned before it. And I hate toyotas...
The problems people have on this site are not representative of the the entire population. Hmmm...over 300k vics sold and this site has about 3500 members, of which, 75% don't even post. I don't understand why people bash hondas on a honda site and expect others to agree with their discerning point of view.
I just bought my car, and so far *crosses fingers*, I've been satisfied. I actually did choose a Honda for the name, because of how this car holds its value. My other options were a Prelude or an Accord Coupe, which are/will be considered "old cars" within the next few months, with the release of the reworked 2003 Accord and the fact that the Prelude's gone for the time being. I don't plan to keep this car more than 4-5 years, and I don't want it to have the value of a, say, 5 year old Dodge Neon or a even a 5 year old Mitsubishi Eclipse (though I think it's a pretty cool car anyway). I actually haven't heard of most of the problems mentioned in this forum, and hopefully my car will hold up okay. You people sure did pay a lot for your Civics. I paid $16129 for my car (2002 EX Coupe), including tax, title and license. At least Honda's dealer network doesn't have the terrible reputation of VW's, they seem to do a pretty good job of fixing anything they screw up. Well, good luck to all of y'all that happened to pick up lemons.
Well , ronin , no Canadian bashing from me! My 01 LX sedan was built in East Liberty , Ohio. Car has been reliable as far as starting up and getting me to my destination every time. But the number of little annoyances all add up to make the total ownership experience dissapointing in a lot of ways. Warranty ended last week so I will be paying for anything that needs fixed from now on. Although the only money I have put into the car so far was for 8 oil changes and I replaced the air cleaner. Tires will be needed soon if I keep it. May stick with Honda and trade for a used Accord - have not decided for sure.
But the car does seem to run better as more miles are driven and it always gets great mileage even with my leadfoot tactics. The interior room is impressive for a car this size. I am the original owner and know the whole history of the car - which does give a certain piece of mind.
I'm glad that the majority of us have had little or no problems with their 2k1's - it will be interesting to see how these cars hold up over the long haul - in 4 or 5 years when there are lots of us in the 100,000+ mile club.
I don't regret buying my civic. I got the ex model w/ a spolier for $16,400. Since then i have Tinted the windows, put fog lights on it, new exhaust and some audio mods. i bought the car at a great price, and can fix it up with not alot of money. the only problem i have had is the deck lid won't latch all the time. Other than that i love my car
I love my Civic. I wish it had better aftermarket support but that will come. I regret not getting the Si, got the LX instead. Now the RSX is looking better and better. As for the -50 C winter, my car has started every time with shamefully few plug ins. Great car.
