bigger tires will slow you down, but you wont really notice it unless you have a truck and you put those huge off-road lookin tires on it. It slows you down because there is more friction to the ground which takes more power to push. But in our case a stock 15 to an aftermarket 18 isnt that big of a deal. Like he said, maybe a .2 difference in the 1/4

yeah..eloquently put nobottlejustthrottle...
blah..yes 18's slow you down...significantly...weight/rolling resistance/larger diameter*affects final drive ratio*

and why on earth are you bragging about beating a stock auto sedan..an auto Civic EX of any year has to be THE slowest car on earth.... Itake that back, and auto DX/HX is....

Is all i'm stating is that w/ 18's you dont lose THAT much of anything.....

you make it sound like id get whooped by an insight..........
since you think its so funny.....lets see your equation??????????????

listen to mister ricer Trevor...I dont have any personal equations that support this. It is a well known fact, and has, infact, been discussed on here many times, and the same answers always surface.

  • A larger diameter wheel/tire DOES lower your effective fnal drive ratio. It's simple logic guy. A lower final drive decreases acceleration.

It requires more power to turn large diameter wheels, because the majority of the weight is located farther away from the center of the wheel

Wider tires, INCREASE rolling resistance (friction)

not to mention the physical weight of the rim itself...

hey guy..i dont have 14's....
and you know what? give me 12" wheels, and i'll still spank you and your gh3y 18's...
remember...big wheels do not a cool man make...
and the difference is probobly more than a tenth...do you really think you can feel a difference of a tenth of a second?
doubtful...and yes...On my 99 civic..i noticed a HUGE difference between 14's and my 17's...and now on my neon...I put 15's from the turbo car on, and it felt much slower...and vice versa..the turbo car feels slower (cause the tires boil) but from a roll, it's quicker than it was with the 15's...

simple logic ricer-san....

well,,that tenth id like to see your equation if any more........prove it.....
Im just sick of all these morons that think if they put 18's on there car there gonna be slower than a damn insight.......
Most peolpe do not have the equation to prove the fact.
Do YOU?
exactly......before you speak and say that they ARE SOOOOOO much slower...prove your point.

And when I see the equation proving that my 18's make me 2 seconds slower in the quarter....then I will shut my mouth and take them off.........(like i said earlier....I dont care about a tenth)

there you have it.

you ought to shut your mouth right now, your making uncle ben jealous...

how much does a stock 2k1 rim weigh? how much do your 18's weigh...what is the overall diameter of a stock wheel/tire? what is the overall diameter of your 18" wheel/tire. WHere is the weight located on the 18" rim? where is the weight located on the 14" rim...think young grasshopper...you dont NEED mathamatical equations....

everytime you OPEN your mouth, you make yourself look more stupid...did i say you were slower than an insight? all i claimed is that 18's will slow you down...that's a fact, jack(ass)

Here's your equation. Read the section on Rotational Inertia. Now, please stop being such a smartass.
