Rep Power: 0 Trade my 2k1 EX for a 95 DOHC Vtec Del Sol....Should I?????
Ok, recently I've been looking at used hondas..something i can pay off alot sooner and wont have to pay for full coverage because its not new. I found a 95 Del sol DOHC 5 speed (b16 engine ) with only 60k miles on it and in really good condition at one of my local dealers. I'm really thinking seriously about it..any opinions on what I should do? (Also looking at a 96 GSR 5speed with 80k miles). Thanks!!

Rep Power: 0 how much do you have to spend?
you *could* buy a 92 Si hatch, for ... say 2K then get a B16 or better yet a B18C1 with ECU and tranny for... 1500 or so (low miles). throw on a turbo, all the goodies like gagues piping and what not, built suspension, throw in some nice seats, and you still looking under 10K total.. and its PAID OFF. Plus itll run 12s.

Rep Power: 0 Don't listen to that moron.
That Del Slow will rip the 2k1 a new @sshole. I believe there lighter than the 99-00 Si by a hundred lbs or so, and an Si will easily dispatch a 2k1. If you have a family try to get a GSR if you want speed since it at least has a backseat...if not, get the Sol.

Rep Power: 0 del sol weighs 90 Lbs more then a 99/00 Si coupe due to the fact that its not a T-top, it has a completly removable top leaving no bracing what so ever. its effectivly a convertable, so honda had to add almost 200 lbs more to the car in bracing to make it meet US crash standards and so the chasis wouldnt twist while turning hard.

Rep Power: 0 Thanks neo, thats what I was thinking..basically same engine as the 00 si plus quite a bit lighter!! fortunately wont have to worry about the family part for a while. as far as the hatch, joe, personally i dont like the look of any civ hatch..but thats just my opinion ( no flames please)..also, even if i wanted a b18 engine the del sol would have room for it, and plus if i dropped a b18 in a car as light as a del sol, dear lord that thing would fly.

Rep Power: 0 Well, whatever the actual weights of both the cars are (i guess we will never know)...isnt important to me. What I see is a car very similar to the SI in speed, but with the option of a convertible if you want it. I would have to change the little A$$ 14 inch wheels though.

Rep Power: 0 Sounds like you want to go for the del sol... convertable's are kew and that would be my second choice as a convertable (1st is the s2g.) I dunno... I love that car... and I love the GS-R... but since I'd rather take a Type R over a GS-R and the R isn't on your list, I'm gonna go with the del sol if I were you.

Rep Power: 0 Thanks for the input everybody..one more question though.. I still have about 12k to pay on the 2k1. The del sol is only 8900. My question is: What is the process of trading in a car you are making payments on for one that is used and quite a bit less than even the kelly blue book trade in for my car (12,500)?? Someone please help me with this, thanks!

Rep Power: 0 I knew that $hit sounded wrong. No way a Del Sol is weighing more.
When you trade in the credit you get will be applied to your loan to pay it off. Any left will then be applied towards the new car. Or if you dont have enough then you have to pay the loan off, and pay on the new car.
My friend wrecked his Del Sol S, and I found him a DOHC VTEC Sol, and he threw a VAFC, coilovers, intake, and 17's on it and hes had it for about a week now. He even gave me his seats from his old S, and there DAMN COMFORTABLE, way better than the POS Civic seats.
Trust me the thing hauls as good if not better than a Civic Si Coupe, just go test drive it for gods sake.

Rep Power: 0 if you want a fast car, just buy a S13 or S14. Then spend about $3000 for a J-Spec SR20DET, and you got a bad azz turbo RWD monster. That'll eat up any B-series DOHC anyday.

Rep Power: 0 << if youre gonna get a del sol, you might as well jus get a REAL car and get a crx, then swap a b16 into it. MUCH faster, MUCH more fun to drive. >>
A del sol is a crx...they changed the name when it came out from honda crx III to honda civic del sol, and then finally to just honda del sol.
If you are talking about the old style crx's, i did mention earlier that i dont like the looks of any hatch style car and the old crx looks too much like a small hatch to me...yes they are fast, but kind of ugly in my opinion.
BTW I test drove the car today..the salesman let me take it on the highway to feel the power and i loved it...such a big difference in speed than our civ's.

Rep Power: 0 As a former owner of a 97 Dohc Vtec, the curb weight IS around 2490lbs, give or take 10 lbs... also, I loved that car, though I find the civic much easier to live with (quieter, smoother, more room) I would give anything to have the sol back. The convertible is a plus, and the b16 is a def plus. I'd say go for the del sol, they'll be making civics for many, many more years, but the sols are gone for good, get one while they are still out there in good shape. Peace!
