So I decided to try and watch nascar to see what the great appeal is.
They start the race, and maybe it's just me, but after watching the last 2 IRL races, those NASCAR stock cars just look slow in comparison. I mean I understand they are about 70mph slower than the IRL cars, but I still expected 160mph to look faster.
I guess the appeal is within the domestic pushrod fans?

I agree, I tried watching it before and your IQ has to be around 80 if that can keep you entertained.
I guess the only exciting thing that can happen is a crash and I think thats what the typical redneck mind wants to see.
Same goes for professional drag racing. I went to the race track a couple tims on street night and I had a great time seeing all types of cars run, we had cars running 10s to 17s..... it was nice to see the variety. One time my friend told me to go to one of them professional drag events where they race thsoe rail cars and that shit was boooooooring. Seeing the same exact cars running mid 7s all day long slowls your brain down and kills brain cells..... samethign with Nascar.
The only thing cool about nascar is the crashes and the burnout at the end

I went to the Pocono 500. its one of the, if not the absolute, fastest nascar track in the country. Sure its the same thing over and over but anyone who is a car enthusiast would enjoy the roar of a car doing over 190 mph flying by them only 10 feet away. see figure A.

nascar is really popular in the south, it is the most watched sport in the usa
seats are always sold out
not only is it the most popular but contrary to belief it isnt a hillbilly sport, in fact auto racing fans as a whole are the wealthiest group of fans on average compared to any other sport worldwide even golf or something. now this includes cart racing and nascar and maybe even drag racing but nascar is one of those in this category with the highest avg yearly income for fans
and for my .02 i think nascar is fun because youve got cars that are 99.9999% identical on a simple track and the only thing to get you to the top is strategy and technique, not just gunning it like most think. maybe its cus i have a general love for all things automotive but especially as s2kman said the pushrod v8's
