Wow! My, a kid I went to highschool with, has a Mustang in that bodystyle... if he wasn't such a loser, I'd suggest he do that! That's the best looking vintage Mustang I've seen. (From the outside at least. The interior... leaves something to be desired as anything other than a track car. lol)

"rebuilt" ... wow ... that's an understatement! I'm pretty astonished that he just didn't scrap the original junk heap and build from scratch. That is just amazing work, tho so much has been replaced or heavily patched up. I totally dig this stuff people do with old junk cars. Any idea how long this whole process took?
^ A little over 2 years, He still has to drop the engine in it & finish some small stuff before its track ready.

Damn, I have to ask wouldn't it have been easier to just start with some tubing and build up?

You betcha it would have been a crapload easier, but my minimum weight would have been 3020# rather than 2750# due to the way that the prepared rules are. So, I did a whole lot more work at the beginning so I wouldn't have to do as much work looking for places to hang chunks of steel later.
As it is I've already had to put 340# of ballast in the car. Think of it this way, 340# is a chunk of steek 1.75" x 6" by 12 feet long (+/-), cut one section at a time into 25#-50# pieces on a small band saw.... took all day.
Well, I'm a little late getting here, but I only heard about this thread via the VWvortex thread that was linked to another forum I'm on. I appreciate all of the compliments. They help to offset the last 28 months I've spent with little in the way of a life or spending $$. The body guy did a fabulous job forming those fenders for me. The guy does magic with metal.
Anyway, thanks again, and if you've got any questions, I'd be happy to answer them
