Alright, I'm wanting to buy a 2000 Honda Civic SI. I'm wanting one without many mods done to it and maybe salvaged so I can get it for cheaper and fix it on my own. My pops disagrees. He loves honda but he says I should go for the EX. His says "An EX is the same as the SI except without the bigger motor." He may be right...SI's are pretty expensive too...I'm sure I can get an EX for cheaper, but I've always liked SI's. What do you guys think?

the insurance for the si is higher than an ex.. also depends on how much $$$ u have if i were u get a 01 or 02 ex and put a k20 on it. if ut go for the 2000 si get one that is stock. the modded ones are not good... they are selling them for a reason.
i dont know the difference between an EX and an SI, haha but id say go for the SI.

Because youre looking for an SI AND a salvaged one the insurance will go up because of those 2 things. You might run into problems because its salvaged too. The ex is way slower than the si of course.. I guess its up to you and what your budget is.
the previous gen si's are good but alot of them around here have alot of problems. you might be better off getting a gsr. those cars are the true import street racer kings.

get a dx or lx.. and swap an engine into it later would be much cheaper and insurance would be cheaper...
if you can find a stock or close to stock si id definetly get it.
just becareful as it is a one of a thieves favorite cars. My buddy had his stolen and stripped twice.
if not look into an EX and swap an SI engine in. Or, like lkm said, look at some GSRs.
The Si has a B16A2, better transmission, rear disks, lots of Si emblems, and a little nicer interior.
If you find an Si for a good price that has not been raped, buy it, but it will cost more to insure, and harder to find, thus cost more.
Now, if you are adventureous and like to do things your way, there is a cost saving route to take.
Buy an EX, 99-00. Buy a JDM B16 or B18. These will cost about 1500-3500. Install that motor, transmission, and ECU. These will all easily bolt in with small modifications. Then buy the rear disks from a Del Sol or early Integra for 250, bolt those on with a new proportioning valve from an Si, and you have the brakes. In fact, all the Si parts will bolt on. You can eventually buy everything off of Ebay, like the cluster, and such.
Sure it will not be a real Si, but a replica. A hybrid. But it will be as fast or faster than a stock Si and will be easier to find, and cheaper to insure.
