Motor oil for gear oil(standard trans)?

Motor oil for gear oil(standard trans)?
I heard that U can use 10w30 motor oil for gear oil in a 93 civic trans.Is this true?

you can use any oil you want, but i would follow what the manual says.

That is all MTF and ATF is, 10w30 plus additives. So, of course you can use plain motor oil, but you won't have the extra additives.

ATF is not just gear oil. It is red and smells completely different. Most MTF's are just gear oil.

ATF is dyed red and you're smelling additives. It's nothing special.
