the civic EX DOES have a governor, it kicks in around 130-135.

if you saw anything above 130-135 on your speedo, then your speedo is way off, or something isn't right.

BY LAW honda has to limit the car at that speed. why? because the stock OEM factory tires are only rated to speeds of about 135 or so.

so unless you have your car chipped, you won't get past the 130-135 mph barrier.

so cracker and civic808, something ain't right, because it would have been impossible for you to get above 135.

right. and would this be because federeal DOT law doesn't apply to the civic?

again. because the OEM tires on the civic are speed rated at around 135mph, BY LAW THE VEHICLE MUST HAVE A SPEED LIMITER SET BELOW THAT SPEED.

how much more clear can i be on this?

If what you're saying is true, that would make my speedo 5-10mph off. I'm rollin on 205/40 17s which would indeed make my speedo inaccurrate but not by as much as what you're saying.

have your allignment checked or you might have a busted belt in one of your tires,,,,or if your car was previously wrecked and there was bad damage to the car that could cause it to shake too,,,,,,,i hope this might help you out.

well the question is this.

is the civic's speed limited by a governor on the indicated speed on the speedo.... or is it limited by a certain rev point in 5th gear.

if you saw 140 on your speedo, then it's probably limited by revs in 5th gear.

and you'd be amazed how off your speedo is up at those speeds. in a stock civic, if your speedo says 130mph, chances are you are only going about 121-125mph.

tires flex exponentially and directly in variation with the speed you are going, particularly as they reach their maximum speed rating. this causes a huge difference in indicated speed vs actual.

so yes, seeing as you have larger tires than stock, chances are at those speeds, your speedo is actually reading a good 15+mph OVER what you are ACTUALLY going.
