Ok i have been around this forum forever... i dont post alot but i try to be helpfull...
the problem i see here is new people coming into this site are falling into the bitch 'n moan about the d17 mentality. I have NO idea where this came from or why people think that other
engines you can just bolt on a damn filter stick on and gain the manufacturers claimed HP gain.
Yes, some engines are exeptions, some b series and of course the SR and RBs but that is because these engines are prepped for these mods, they have good airflow and are actually undertuned from the factory. IT DOESNT TAKE a 3k-5k turbo or some rediculously overpriced engine swap(to an engine i wouldnt want anyways... most expensive to build engine ever is the k series) ALL it takes is Your regular mods(i/h/e) a decent machine shop to open up the head(which does N O T cost 700 goddamn dolars, if you pay over 500 for a pnp INCLUDING removing and installing head you got ripped) i mean jesus with I/H/E P&P, baisic polishing and roughing, bluprinting a tune up, good oil, a new clutch and flywheel and a good few days on the dyno im putting down 150 hp clean and solid. when i redo the crappy fuel system we have(the only complaint i have about this powerplant) it will go up considerably, and once somone makes internals 175-200 will be cake... i understand people are used to hearing 500 hp this and 350 hp that but those numbers just arent going to happen on this engine without the FULL DEAL and that is investing about 15k AFTER price of motor and turbo. I understand alot of you guys are draggers and 200 seems low but 200 hp on this chassis will pretty much blow the ass off anything on the road thats not a full sports car with over 350 hp (c5, c6, viper, tuned supra or 240)
Its realy not as bad as people make it seem, for 2 or 3 grand TOPS you can be putting down 150+ hp on this car(dx/lx at least i know nothing or want nothing to do with vtec economy cam bs) it just takes finding the right shop or friends, some money and basic engine work.
that kind of hp with good suspension and wheel/tire setup will put down nice numbers at the track or the autocross and still be enough to S E V E R L Y woop the ass off the rednecks in there mustangs and the filthy ricers with unpainted kits and popping buzzing exhausts that are destroying the image of our sport.
anyways sorry if i come off as an ass i just want to throw some inspiration into people.. stop complaining on the board, and go get yer tune on.

I think there are 2 sides, there is 1 side that likes to mod cars but cant get much so they complain, and then there is the side that think Civics are the fastest and coolest machines out there only met with disappointment. Thankfully, I'm none of the above.
well i personally like the kseries... in which i have 137whp stock its great.... and even with a d17 just knowing how to build it is essential. dont spend your money on body kits and rims.
with gas prices hitting almost $1/litre (yes, i'm canadian) i'm happy with my 127-hp motor that's frugal and sips on gas. hp is overrated, as Zzyzx said.
my personal view as that most members just want a decently not ungodly fast car. The truth about the D17 is that it is Sh!t....yes it gets good milege and thats about it.. Perfomance I didnt buy it for that if I wanted ultimate performance I would got myself a used 240sx, WRX etc. I wanted a reliable car gets me from point A to point B. but d@mn a D17 can't really even do that right!!! 127hp doesnt alow quick lane changes or onramp power not to mention power at all on a steep hill... it just blurps and screems going know were as a gravel truck is pitting your car infront of you and your to slow to change lanes!!!
People just want a car that has some punch here and the civic fails thats why its not number one selling econo car anymore...
Once you get one you realize how horrible they are as daily drivers.. Yes they have nice curves and no they are not reliable as you believe! how many of you guys had tranny probs? 01 models? i know you guys did. Truth be told the d17 fails......
I am saving for a turbo because I can't afford another car and I just want decent lane changing power out of this thing, never was drag for me...
ohh yes cone racing? ya now thats fun call it auto X its still CONE racing. Get yourself an Srt-4 and take that arounda circut like california speedway-thats what you do with a sports car.
there frustration released...
Only hope for D17 is forced induction...otherwise you got a motor that wont last you at all and pushes out not nearly the same numbers.

You'd be supprised how hard autocross is to master... and an SRT-4 on a road course isn't all that great.... (ps, open tracking isnt real racing either)
Autocross: Because Life is more fun on three wheels......
"I know Solo only comes one minute at a time, but what an intense, non-stop, fast-forward car control exercise minute it is. Sure, the velocity is higher in road racing, but inside the car it is slow-motion in comparison. In Solo, the turns come like machine-gun rounds. "

I know autocross is a hard sport...its just my view and it really isnt my cup of tea. everyone has there own things..
for instance drifting. When i was down at the tracks i heard some other class devision drivers snubbing the drifters as being clowns...
ohh ya add the integra aka RSX and SI for the racing track. You can actually make those mean cars. They are under 20k as well
just use force induction on the k20a3 to get it up to par.
Miata is a great ready to go track car... i was seriously considering getting one of their track cars in a few years however the closest Track to me is California speedway it favors high top end.
I'll probally end up getting a C4 or Zr1 they didnt hold thier value as people believed they would.
