Originally posted by Deejai35 I'm really disappointed... I wanted to see the Skyline win this year. I haven't read the article yet, but I noted the DNF.
yeah the skyline was actually in the lead late in the competition but had technical difficulties at the road test i think, and didn't get back to being good
Originally posted by hondaciv01 yeah, all these cars where modified to the point that the maker thought that the car they created would have the greatest chance to win.
the viper was just a beast in the dyno, but that's all it did really great in, and that's why it didn't win
Then its not really a good comparison of each car against each other is it. That would make it a compitition of each tuner being able to get the most out of each chassis. Given different Teams tuning each chassis, the results could be totaly different. Right?
Autocross: Because Life is more fun on three wheels......
"I know Solo only comes one minute at a time, but what an intense, non-stop, fast-forward car control exercise minute it is. Sure, the velocity is higher in road racing, but inside the car it is slow-motion in comparison. In Solo, the turns come like machine-gun rounds. "

The general idea of this thing is to build a well balanced car. On occasion someone suceeds. A couple years ago, the guy who owns Axis wheels entered a Ferrari 360... It was just slightly modified and I don't think it won a single contest, but it finished high in all of them wound up winning based on steadily running well in all categories. He plans to enter a Bentley GT in next years contest with the same philosophy in mind. More often than not you'll end up with a drag car trying to run a road course, or visa versa and it just doesn't work out. Its just like when they do the tuning house comparisons on the same car, and Tuner A's car runs a 11 sec 1/4 but turns a road course time 5 seconds behind Tuner B's car which runs the road course the fastest but has a 13 second 1/4, then there's Tuner C's car which splits the performance of Tuner A and Tuner B. Some of it is up to what the car is capable of, and the rest of it is left to the guys building it to make it something that can win.
Oh and to answer your other earlier question... Hoosiers seem to be the tire of choice for this. Not like they're fair for testing Street cars, but their DOT legality allows their use.
I understand, they are basically building a car that had to do a Triathalon of sorts. Where they could build a car that does every thign So so, or build a more specilized car and hope its success in one event makes up for its Defecincys in others. Still isnt a good comparison of Car Vs Car. But it would be a good look at the tuners and what they are good at.
Originally posted by sadboy916 ok you typed alot but i still did not get an answer on why those cars should beat a VIPER. let me remind you again were talking about a VIPER.
Vipers have issues, and they are not as good of a car as the Hype says they are....
Example: SCCA Solo 2 compition, both the Viper (All Versions) and the Corvette Z06 are classed Super Stock, and the Viper isnt even compeditive Vs the Z06.
They are big, have issues with getting all that power to the ground, and don't turn nearly as well as they should.

alright i'm gonna try to explain this: there are several diverse categories for which a car is judged. its not all about speed. the car has to look unique, have unique mods, turn, stop and go well. the viper did not win cause it either finished way at the top or way at the bottom. it did not rate well in comfort, driveability, and had trouble getting all its massive amounts of power to the ground, as previously stated. the point is to make a well rounded STREET car that can do everything well. that means gas mileage, comfort and driveability killed the viper, which used race gas, and was docked 10 points because of it.
if it was only a test of power, then yes the viper would have won, but the viper didn't do enough things good enough to win.
in this competition, the car must be consistently good at all or at least most categories....while the 350z was not an overpowering car, it did well in most tests
Originally posted by sadboy916 blah it won 2 years straight so ricers most likely complianed to the magazine because it is a import magazine.
SCC is hardly like Import Tuner or Super Street (and the likes).... just take a look at the mag, and you will see cars like Cavaliers, and SRT-4s, and such are there... they even go as far as examining the internal's of DOMESTIC car engines, just seeing how they praise the SRT-4's engine should indicate somethings..........
yes, Viper made 842.5WHP, but this contest is way more than just dyno #'s and 1/4 mile times. There was no doubt the Viper would kick ass in the dyno, but....... thats where it ends just about.........
