I have an automatic. I have no regrets buying it. I drove a manual civic. It's nice but when racing, you run more consistent times. Just press the gas and go. I think you can buy a chip to set your rev meter but i'm not for sure. I can get to redline in my automatic 01 civic. Just hit the gas hard and your off.

Originally posted by jwalker87 no, its really easy. You'll go out a few times in like a parking lot and learn...and you'll be like "i'll never learn this damn thing!" and then the next time you go out it just clicks, and you learned. Thats how it happened with me anyways.
I hope to learn fast too. I'm happy that my friend said that i'm out of the beginning stage where i stall constantly. Now at least i know to relax and just gas it and let the clutch out. I hopefully, i'll soon be able to find that friction zone and then let the clutch out, gas it and then go instantly.
just dont get into the habit of giving it too much gas...like a few months after I learned I got into this habit of spinning my wheels....on literally every start. My mom got really pissed. Now my dad is going to have to make me pay for tires, because "he is not going to support my bad driving habits." I dont do it anymore, but I turn fast and accellerate/decellerate fast, so I guess he has a point. Anyway, this post was completely pointless so just ignore it (except you already read it, hahaha!)
yup im in the process of learning as well, man my dads a crazy teacher hes telling me all these fansy techniques that i dont understand. ah well im getting used to it now, takes a few days luckily there is a huge church parking lot where i live thats perfect for learning.
on a side note my dad was telling me this technique to pump the clutch while its in second after you stall and it will start the car back up. I didnt even know what the hell he was talking about but he showed me a couple times. eh i guess i'll learn in due time.
Manual all the way! I hate the idea that I can't shift for myself. Going up hills suck waiting for your car to shift, and going down hills you really don't get any engine braking.

Thasts called Bump starting. If you ever kill the battery on a manual car, you can con your friends in to pushing the thing and then you Drop the clutch while its in 1st, the car should just start right up!!
Cant do that with an automatic.
(Side note, thats how we start up the shifter karts (125 or 250cc)
Autocross: Because Life is more fun on three wheels......
"I know Solo only comes one minute at a time, but what an intense, non-stop, fast-forward car control exercise minute it is. Sure, the velocity is higher in road racing, but inside the car it is slow-motion in comparison. In Solo, the turns come like machine-gun rounds. "

i love my auto. i never really plan on racing. traffic would suck huevos if i had manual. and its nice to be able to have one hand on the steering wheel and one around a girl :-p
also.... anyone ever buy fast food and the cup is too small for the cup-holder? auto drivers have a free hand to save the car from spillage.
on the down-side autos dont respond quickly to throttle. its like it wants to think about it for a second first. :: slush box
there is no better between the two.... its a matter of what you need it for :-p

I myself have auto and I do wish for a manual simply cause it is more fun, but I can be lazy so it's not all that bad. What would be nice for performance wise is if they would just put a 5spd auto tranny in instead of 4 like they do overseas, but it's in the 2.0 civic (not hatch). Wish they'd release the 2.0 civics here and have the hatch too but hey you can always swap I guess.
Switch on the ignition and release the handbrake. Put into third gear and hold the clutch pedal fully down while someone push the car along at a brisk walking pace. Once momentum has been achieved let in the clutch sharply, and providing there is nothing else wrong, the engine should start.
