Ok...here's the deal.....this guy and I are thinking bout going in as partner's in opening a detailing shop / performance parts.......u know...start out with the simple bolt-on mod's to get something started for ourselves.........give wholesale price's and a good labor rate.........it's hard finding a good reliable shop around here in NJ for me..and a lot of others............do you think something like that would take off??? i'm actually just looking for some input maybe, just trying to get some feedback to make me realize if it's a good idea or not.......we're both very mechanically inclined....we do all the work ourselves at all times......just lemme know wut u guys think...i'm about 20 minutes out of philly.......

Sounds good - There are only a handful of places around the MA area that do that sort of thing, but they have been successful from what I have seen. There are a couple places in NY, but I don't know of any from NJ. But if you can hook it up, then do it!
I say, if you can launch it go for it..
Keep in mind what you plan to chrarge for labor, location, and any competitors around you. Some people consider those as top priority (I know I do.)
Good luck! Who knows depending on what you have to offer, I'd buy something..
yea make sure that there are cars in that area to work on, if its a hot import scene, then you should do well, if not, then maybe who knows, people might drive there for service, make flyers and spread them around and business cards and stuff. good luck
its harder then u think.. i live in nyc and i've seen many import shops come and go. just do the math on how much profit u have to make and how much money is gonna be spent .. example: like for 1 month .. rent, stock, payroll, utilities..etc
Im living proof that it works,(and if it works is NH it works anywhere) but GOD DAMN its hard work some times. in this biz is feast or famine...one day you pull in like 3 grand in the shop, and the next week, not even enough to pay rent...dont let bills pile up. you need to set up wholesale accounts with the major companys...
advertise in places where you will get a responce....everytime i go to the track i bring biz. cards and allways run out. also my BIGGEST advice is treat EVERY costomer like they are steve frickin papadakis, even if there just buying some some LED nozzel lights...if you treat people badly, or screw them over your gonna lose all your biz. oh, and if you dont think you can install something tricky, pass it off.....if you install something faulty it opens you up to HUGE lawsuits and you can kiss your insureance premiums goodbye.
just a few nuggets of wisdom, you can do it but as long as you have the DESIRE to do it, and it wont be a shop, it will be your life. because with all the instal you never get a day off....gets tireing, anywyas have a good one, peace
