Cat back Exhaust

Does anyone know the laws in Mass concerning exhaust noise? I'm looking to get a cat back setup but a fiend of mine bought a 2000 Si over the summer that had a aftermarket exhaust, it was pretty loud. To get the car to pass inspection he had to buy a different exhaust. He ended up buying just a OEM one.

Thanks

This is some info that i got:

"(5) Muffler and Exhaust System.

Accelerate motor to test for prevention of unnecessary noise and emission of any unreasonable amount of smoke. The exhaust system, exhaust manifold(s), exhaust pipe(s), muffler(s), and tailpipe(s), if designed to be so equipped, shall be tight and free of leaks. System components shall be securely fastened with fasteners in place and undamaged. All motor vehicle exhaust systems shall discharge the exhaust beyond operator, passenger, and/or trunk compartment. Unnecessary noise is herein defined as any noise which is louder than that emitted by the vehicle when equipped with the original manufacturer's equipment. A gas or diesel vehicle will be rejected if, at normal operating temperature, at any constant speed over 15 MPH, (approximately 1,000 to 1,200 RPM's) visible black or blue exhaust emissions are evident."

I would hate to buy the exhaust and have to remove it a year later when it fails inspection. Anyone from Mass have a loud exhaust and got it to pass inspection in the past year?

Whoa! I didn't know that. I'll be buying a relatively quiet exhaust anyway, so I don't think that I have anything to worry about. If I were to buy an exhaust system today I'de get the TCS2 By DC Sports.

I have the TCS. It's pretty bad ass. you're gonna get alot of guys asking about it, and if DC makes an application for their car. One thing I was thinking was that DC is in calf., and cali has the strictest emisions rules anywhere. Meaning that you could probably get more hp out of a product that was made somewhere like florida. Florida has no emisions rules, so companies have that freedom of not worrying about compromising performance for emisions sake.

absolutly, and i wanna check out your c/f hood. I actually need to ask a question. I got a header and cat bi-pass from hp racing(in fla.) and we can't seem to get my engine light to stay off. Is this something that I'm gonna keep seeing, and I just gotta put up w/ it? Or is there a way to fix it. Another thing, since we all have these nice new civics and we're putting all this stuff on it, do we just kiss our waranty bye bye? should I go to my dealer and cancel it for a check? Please help a brother out.

Maybe the check engine light is on 'cause you're past 10,000 miles? How many miles do you have on your civic? For warrenty information check the FAQ. It varies from dealer to dealer. If the part cannot be proven to cause problems then it cannot be blamed when a problem arises. I don't know about getting any money back. I wish I could! Haha...

This info on noise has been wicked helpful. I have friends w/ loud exhausts, but they drive '96 Mazdas and Eclipses. I know one had to buy a different exhaust b/c it was too loud. You guys in this forum dave made my decision much easier. DC Sports TCS all the way!

They make a TCS system for the LX, does that mean it will fit the DX? Also, I saw on importparts.com that Kamikaze makes a header for the DX/LX, does anyone have any info on that?

Yeah I would like to know. Especially if the 2 work together fine (TCS and Kamikaze that is).
