Yeah, I figured it was probably not a flash after I posted that.
Doubted you'd have an external flash with your setup.
Try turning the light upside down and hitting a ceiling, or putting a blank sheet of paper in front of the lamp, you'll get much better results with the lighting diffused.
Don't be shy with night time photography. I find it a lot easier than day time photography, simply because you don't have to rely on the lighting of the day.
Just set it on a tripod or a flat surface and let it go to town.

I never thought about night time photography like that. I'll have to give it a try when I am somewhere that I can take night pics.

None of them are HDR.
I've had pretty bad experiences with HDR so far.
