222,000 mile EGR passages

These have never been cleaned before. I did not have the CEL for the low egr flow but I decided to clean the passages anyway as a preventive measure. The job is not that bad if you are thinking about doing it. There were multiple spots that were fully blocked as you may be able to see in the pics. Makes me wonder exactly how bad do they have to be to get the CEL? Took two cans of brake clean to get it clean. The gasket was toast, got a new one.

Before I did this job I was getting 35MPG. After this job I also changed out the original pcv valve I am now getting 37MPG .
I'll take that increase.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

The clogged passages don't cause the miss.....the last remaining open passage does.

The open passage gets ALL of the EGR flow after the others clog up, and that's way too much EGR for stable combustion in a single cylinder....therefore, misfire on one cylinder.
