Stock Intake Worth Upgrading
I have a 2001 Honda Civic LX with the stock airbox and removed silencer. I was wondering if its worth getting a CAI or Short RAM intake. Not really looking for power gains mostly only sound and aesthetics. Thank you in advance for any and all help .

Yeah, I haven't noticed any worse performance with mine over stock. You can try to make your own if you have the materials. This is obviously not a Civic article but the principle is the same. http://forums.evolutionm.net/evo-how...at-shield.html

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Nah, not at all. Hondas wet-dry vacs are cheap little things.
A Benz or Porsche wet-dry vac might be considered expensive. BTDT.
I have a 13 Challenger in the air right now waiting on an insurance adjuster to look at it..... for water damage. Hydrolocked and broke a rod, this one did. Water standing in the intake. 100% stock intake too.

No manufacturer is going to put an air intake snorkel on the roof just so drivers can ford an occasional river, and the manufacturer sure can't keep stupid people off the roads.
This person tried to drive through a flooded underpass in a heavy downpour...and didn't make it. Water was probably a bit more than a foot deep, I'd guess.
Now there's a tax for someone to pay, and this time it's the insurance company.
So far we haven't located a suitable used replacement, and a new short block is apparently on indefinite intergalactic backorder.
