Rep Power: 0 Spoon Radiator Cap?
I just got my 2002 Ex a couple weeks ago and I am getting ready to start modding. For the engine I am thinking an AEM intake, air bypass valve, and Tanabe Super Racing Medallion exhaust. I am also considering getting the Spoon radiator cap because it looks good and it also said some stuff about keeping the engine temp. down. Does anyone have this or know anything about it? If so do you recommend it? Also do any mods for the 01 also fit the 02. Thanx

Rep Power: 0 I have the spoon radiator cap......looks good and supposedly increases the boiling point thus helping to prevent overheating (whatever though, it looks cool). And yes, just about any 01 mod should work for 02's.

Rep Power: 281 i have the mugen radiator cap
there was an article on it on super street a while back..
helps keep the engine temp down or something something etc etc.
but youd have to do a lot of hard driving to actually get the use of it..
besides that, its just cool to have an actuall spoon/mugen/blitz cap...

Rep Power: 281 ok ok here is the answer once and for all
btw mugen/spoon oil cap doesn't do anything...thats jus for show~
the concept:
cooler engine temperature
the product:
mugen radiator cap [or spoon/blitz etc]
...the cap is designed to pop open and relieve cooling system pressure at a lower temperature than the stock cap.
and thats it..

Rep Power: 0 - Please NICELY correct me if I'm wrong, I was under the impression that a Spoon (or whatever) radiator cap increases the pressure at which coolant flows throughout your engine. The > the pressure, the faster it flows through, meaning that hot coolant flows back into the radiator sooner with the end result that your overall coolant temperature is lower. Because of the higher pressure though, there is more strain on your hoses and hose clamps. I'm pretty sure I remember reading this somewhere or am I pulling this out of my overactive imagination?

I believe that releasing the pressure would cause the cooling system to boil over. I expect the cap just allows a higher pressure before it releases. That's why we have pressure caps in the first place. If you don't believe that, try loosening your radiator cap and driving awhile and see if your car overheats. It will.
If you really want to run cooler, install a lower temp. thermostat, that will allow full cooling at a lower temp.
