Hey everyone, I am sure alot of you have seen those new commercials with Mobil 1 advertising their new extra life synthetic oils. Since this is pretty new, I don't know if anyone has tried this, I use the synthetic that lasts for 5,000mi. Would the 7500mi or 15000mi synthetic oils be any good? If so, what type of filter would even last that long?

Rep Power: 399 Its gotta be bullshit. Mobil 1 is good for 10000 or more as it is. I had a boss that used to change it every 25K and it still came out fine. If it costs more than than the old bottles, just buy the old bottles.

Rep Power: 0 i suggest not to run it at that much mileage in between oil change, you can do it, but the engine life will shorten drastically, specially like myself lives in the desert where dirt gets sucked in to the engine... NA cars---3500-5k, boosted 2k-3500 just my .05

Standard Mobil 1 oil will easily outlast the oil filter you use. Most oil filters are good for 7500 miles max (even Fram's Long-Life filter can't do any better), so unless you plan to change oil filters without changing the oil, having a 15,000-mile oil is useless. Many more expensive vehicles are being equipped with oil life monitors. I change my Corvette's Mobil 1 oil once per year (about 5500 miles) and the oil life monitor usually displays 20% remaining. I use K&N oil filters, which have been proven to flow better than most other filters, including Mobil 1, Wix, and Purolator.
The bottom line is that if you run synthetic oil, you should probably change it either every year or 7500 miles, whichever comes first. If you have doubts, send a sample of your oil to be analyzed. That'll tell you whether you waited too long or whether the oil had even more life to it. BTW, I spoke to German Auto shop manager last year and he told me that they are seeing more and more Mercedes, BMWs and Porsches come in with oil sludge-fouled engines. Apparently, the owners are following the manufacturer's 15,000-mile oil change interval recommendation - BAD mistake!

Rep Power: 265 I just put in the Mobil 1 15k oil. It only cost 20 cents more a quart than regular Mobil 1. They're always developing better oil or additives, or making better oil more affordable. Might as well try it out and see how it goes. I'll probably end up changing my high-efficiency oil filter at my normal 7.5k mi (Mobil 1) interval. If it works, it will be like getting two changes of regular Mobil 1 for the price of one plus a dollar.

Rep Power: 255 I personally use Redline Synthetic, and change it every 4000 to 5000 miles. I don't believe in going 7000 to 10,000 miles between oil changes. We just had a 2001 Saab 9-5 towed in yesterday with a nasty internal engine noise. Only 62,000 miles on it. We asked him about oil change receipts, because that is the first thing the extended warranty company will ask for, and he said Saab has done it every 10,000 miles as prescribed in his owners manual. Engine was 2 quarts low on oil, and oil was very dirty. They use only Synthetic oil. Had he only been going maybe 5000 miles between service, his busted *** car may not be in my shop, making noise like a diesel.
