my aim convo with a member

RYDERS WANTED14: Hey , I'm from 7thgencivic.com
and I wanted to ask u about a DH head. I recently read
that u have purchased one . How does it work. Gains?
Noticable?
Metarian: I've had it on since april. I think there's a
difference. I notice it more when it gets colder outside.
Metarian: Usually, our cars don't like mods. I put my stock
intake back on and felt better performance
RYDERS WANTED14: Really? I have a K&N fpk2 one
Metarian: All I have now is the head, a header, and rear
section exhaust. It feels pretty good. Still no time to tune it.
But DH is not the best company to buy parts from. We've
had tons of problems with it. Another member got his pnp
from raceworks or something for almost $1000 and with
some few other boltons his car dynoed at 140whp.
Metarian: I like the stock intake better than fipk
Metarian: fipk is only good above 4k rpms, and I drive
below that most of the time
RYDERS WANTED14: I have a pully, HEaders. from
HP
Metarian: i think my header is HP, or at least a replica
Metarian: I'm gonna try and send it to be jet-coated
RYDERS WANTED14: yeha
RYDERS WANTED14: I Don't think my header is all
that benificial... maybe with more gains
Metarian: yeah they don't do much. That coating is
supposed to keep heat inside the pipes and make air flow
faster.
RYDERS WANTED14: Really?
RYDERS WANTED14: WHat other stuff do u have for
ur car that u will advise me to get.. Other than a turbo
RYDERS WANTED14: ?
Metarian: http://www.jet-hot.com/
Metarian: I'm getting mine done in black I think, or shiny
silver. Can't decide.
Metarian: Engine/Performance Modifications:
-NGK Iridium Spark Plugs
-Ground Wire Upgrade
-Sun Hyper Voltage System
-Apexi VAFC-II
-Optima Yellow Battery
-Ceramic Header
-DH Racing Ported Head Work
-B+M Transmission cooler
-Thermal Rear Section Exhaust
-Napa Gold Air Filter
Metarian: It's not much. I still need to get the vafcII tuned
RYDERS WANTED14: ? about ur B&M
Metarian: yup
RYDERS WANTED14: I have an oil cooler. Is that like
a Tranny cooler?
Metarian: it's a cooler for the tranny oil, yes
RYDERS WANTED14: Ok cool
Metarian: I have an auto, so it helps make it last longer
RYDERS WANTED14: Another ? Me too, Cool
Metarian: what kinda car do you have?
RYDERS WANTED14: But I bought it off a kid and he
said that it hooked right up... But He forgot to give me
the Sanwhich adapter
RYDERS WANTED14: So I gotta call B&M up and get
one right?
RYDERS WANTED14: How did u do urs
RYDERS WANTED14: ?
Metarian: don't know what the adapter is. I just stuffed the
actual cooler box between the condenser and radiator. It's
holding fine. Then just run hoses to the right spots so oil
flows from tranny, to radiator, then to cooler, then back to
tranny.
RYDERS WANTED14: So , It goes From the tranny, so
u have to drill a hole? Then Back to the Tranny? so u
have to drill to holes?
Metarian: Oh no. There are already two oil lines going from
the tranny to radiator and back. You just rearrange the order
to flow oil to the cooler before sending it back. All you do it
plug in hoses and use those clamps to secure it. It's fairly
easy.
RYDERS WANTED14: Alright, so Me and my buddys
can do this?
RYDERS WANTED14: ANd Ur car works fine?
Metarian: yeah, but you do have to take off the upper
radiator cover and grill to install. Also there are brackets to
loosen the condenser so you can stick the cooler inbetween.
Mostly easy stuff.
Metarian: Yeah works good. My cooler is kinda small, but
still better than nothing. Heat kills 90% of ruined trannys
RYDERS WANTED14: ALright Cool
Metarian: you want a few pics?
RYDERS WANTED14: Then that sound like a good
Project
RYDERS WANTED14: Please
Metarian: they show the screw to loosen the condenser, oil
lines on tranny, and installed with hoses.
metarian wants to send file
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\8177tcool1.jpg.
RYDERS WANTED14: Great man,. Thank you Much
RYDERS WANTED14: I want a turbo For my Car
RYDERS WANTED14: Bad
Metarian: ha me too
RYDERS WANTED14 received
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\8177tcool1.jpg.
Metarian: two more pics
metarian wants to send file
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\8177tcool2.jpg.
RYDERS WANTED14 received
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\8177tcool2.jpg.
metarian wants to send file
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\8177tcool3.jpg.
RYDERS WANTED14 received
C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\8177tcool3.jpg.
Metarian: do they work?
RYDERS WANTED14: I dunno gotta find them now
RYDERS WANTED14: Yeha
RYDERS WANTED14: Yup
RYDERS WANTED14: everything is cool
RYDERS WANTED14: yeha man, But what is that pic
pointing at.. with all the tubes
Metarian: which one? 1, 2, or 3
RYDERS WANTED14: 1
Metarian: the big hose is for coolant. The two smaller ones
in the middle are the tranny oil lines. One of them has the
hose taken off.
Metarian: i forget which one is the return line
RYDERS WANTED14: Ok, I have Steal braided ones
RYDERS WANTED14: They go in the same place?
Metarian: One of those has fluid going out of the tranny to
the radiator. The other line is where fluid returns after being
cooled
RYDERS WANTED14: Boo man
RYDERS WANTED14: which one
Metarian: lemme check
RYDERS WANTED14: yeah? ALright Thanks again
Metarian: Okay. Fluid flows out of the left side hose and to
the left side of the radiator (leave this hose stock). Next
remove the other hose completely. Run a new hose from the
right side of the radiator to one of the inlets on the tranny
cooler. Run another hose from the cooler back to the right
side tranny line (oil return). I think that's right.
RYDERS WANTED14: ok
RYDERS WANTED14: Does ur cooler have like a
metal plate With a hole in it?
Metarian: it's like a square box about 1 inch thick. You can
see it wedged between the radiator and condenser in pic3. It
has two inlets on the top right and left for the hoses to clamp
to.
RYDERS WANTED14: yeha
Metarian: When you loosen the condenser by taking off the
screws on both sides, the cooler will slip in. Then you can
tighten it again to hold it in place. Assuming yours is small
enough.
RYDERS WANTED14: \Mine is about the same size
Metarian: cool
RYDERS WANTED14: But it's like a round dic
RYDERS WANTED14: yo, I will be on in a sec. Gurl

oh yeah maybe you could help me out with this. i have a fan on my cooler so its got a few wires. theres 2 running from the fan itself, so im guessing i attach those to the positive/negative on the battery, then theres two more wires running from the bottom corner of the cooler. not sure what these are for, maybe grounding wires? any ideas?

Recommendation: when you're doing a job, and everythings going fine dont listen to some dumbshit you find at autozone who seems like he knows what hes talking about.
so yeah im installing the transmission cooler, and i realized that i needed a few things. so i go out to autozone and im buying a bit more hose etc. this guy who was talking to the employees there comes up and asks what kinda of clamps im using, and i tell him, and hes like no no those arent good they cut through the hose *hands me a box* and says that he uses those all the time and they're way better. so im like well i guess that they might be and the others might cut through the hose. so i buy em, install everything. go out for a drive, come back to check out whats going on with all the connections. every connection that had his clamp on was spurting transmission fluid, every connection that had my clamp was fine...
so yeah tomorrow im going back there since i need different hose anyways. hey gearbox, what size hose are u using? and is it bigger then the inlet/outlet on the transmission cooler? since if i get a bigger hose then i have then itll be bigger, so for now i have these metal connectors between the bigger and small sized hoses, which doesnt seem to hold too well, and id feel safer having one hose running everywhere.

Okay! I'll check and see if I have an extra piece of hose. I was bein lazy cause it's up in the closet someplace. I know I kept one of the hoses stock, so I should have some of the one that came with the kit.

ah k. yeah im gonna have to change some stuff around hten. the inlet/outlets on the cooler were like 3 or 4 mm opening, haha not a good idea to use those let me tell you... but yeah hopefully nothing got ****ed up, i only drove around the block and not too hard then, lost quite a bit of fluid. so now im changing the inlet/outlet thingies (dont know what theyre called, theyre kinda like screws but allow liquid to travel through them since theyre hollow) to the same size as the inlet is on the tranmission. and im changing all the hoses to the size of the one running from the radiator. fun times...

i have a b&m one which i ended up overpaying by way too much for lol. u could prolly get it for 50$ on ebay like gearbox did, not sure how it works yet cause i havent had a chance to drive my car with it in working order, keep running into different leaks here and there but not the coolers fault.

heres a list of what you will need:
transmission cooler
4 clamps (bought at local autozone or other car-parts store)
6' lenght of 3/8" or 9.5mm transmission cooler hose (might be called fuel line or oil hose or something like that, also purchased at autozone)
about an hour of your time
make sure you have all that, follow gearboxes directions, stuff it between the ac condensor/raiator and call it a day. i tried different places out but nothing worked, and i had to ditch the fan that came with mine.

Well when you do get it working, make sure the fluid level is at max WHEN THE CAR IS WARMED UP AND RUNNING. You don't wanna drive around with low fluid because you checked it with the engine cold.

No. You just refill how much you need to so it goes back to full. Obviously, you will need more fluid due to the extra spaces in the cooler. Taking off the lines won't really squirt out all the fluid. A little came out, but not much. But there's no need for a full flush unless it's time for it (every 15k miles).

i did it like the manual said gearbox. turn the car off for 60 seconds, then check the fluid before 90 seconds. and it was fine. i refilled it yesterday after realizing how much ran out. i let the car warm up all the way so the temp gauge was where it usually is when im driving, then turned it off. also, the manual said that i shouldnt leave the dexron III stuff in there, but should have it replaced with some special honda automatic transmission fluid ASAP. u got any info on that?
and it depends MIT, if you check the fluid and its low and dont fill it up with the honda stuff, according to the manual, u will have to flush out ur transmission.

Yeah always use the honda atf. You need to drain and refill. Takes about 3-4 quarts.

dang, alrighty. got any idea how long i could drive on this stuff? earliest id have a chance to do it would be tuesday, but that wouldnt be very convenient, so id prolly do it next weekend if that wouldnt be too bad. does "flushing" the tranmission mean just draining all the fluid out, or do they actually clean it out somehow?

DIY. Loosen the drain bolt under the car, let fluid drain out in a pan, put bolt back, and refill with new fluid until full. Done. I did it in the parking lot with a socket wrench. Didn't even need to raise up the car.

hmm I did mine at 15k miles and it was BLACK. I would say you need to do it every 15k to be safe. But if it's still red and doesn't smell funny, you should be good for 30k miles.

MIT get either the second or the last one. i bought the first one for 100$ shipped but i ended up taking the fan off since you cant fit it anywhere. i finally got the car up and running, no leaks, works great. i think it did quite a bit to my car actually, accelerates quicker (could just be in my head but ill go test it out when its not raining outside).

oh yeah, ull probably need some teflon tape since the spickets that u have to screw into the top of the inlet/outlet of the transmission cooler were leaking for me no matter how much i tightened them. so just wrap the threading in teflon tape and screw it down like normal and everything will be fine.
