Tires

Hello,
My 91 civic hatchback has 165/70R13 tires and it looks like almost
nobody is making this size anymore... Can I put a different size on the
same rim? If so what size and what are the consequences other than the
speedometer reading slightly different.
Thanks

You'd be limited to 13 inch tires, you can't put 14" or bigger on a 13" wheel. You can get wider and taller, but the 13 number has to be in there to fit your 13" wheels.
If you want to go to bigger tires you'd need appropriately sized wheels.

165/70R13 tires and it looks like almost
nobody is making this size anymore..
The US parts catalog shows these as original sizes:

185-60-14 (Si)
175-70-13 (DX)
165-70-13 (std)

TireRack.com has matches for the 175-70-13 size, so there are some available choices. Winter choices too. Low low prices!

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?width=175%2F&ratio=70&diamet er=13

I entered the 165 vs 175 tire sizes in this sites calculator http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/infoTireMath.do , and came up with about 1.6 difference at 65 MPH.

Wait, you're in Canada aren't you? Um, check your tire dealers sites up there. The 175 size should be available nonetheless.

Re: Tires

Tnx, yes I know it has to be a 13..

I am in Canada but close to the border. Dollar is low now^&%^&^%*grr
I see going to a 175/70R13 size on the Tire Rack website opens up a few more choices.
So you feel I can put a 175 on the same 165 rim without any problems

I did find one that is sold here in that size 165>> called a "Good Ride" never heard of it before but I guess Honda had some reason to select that
size for a standard civic back in the day.

Soo, correct size with an unknown brand or a wider tire with a known brand???

Thanks e zone, PS: Stiiiillll trying to track down that drop in idle as you add accessories..lol planning to pull the last alternator I installed soon and have it properly bench tested at a rebuild facility.

Re: Tires

Wheels listed are 13x4.5" (std) and 13x5" (DX).....I personally don't think a 10mm wider tire on the skinny wheel will hurt anything. It might look a little like a balloon tire though.

I'd go with a known brand....but then I like Michelins and pay their prices LOL

called a "Good Ride" never heard of it before
Much like a car salesman that calls himself "Honest Bill", honesty probably isn't really part of the program.....Same goes for the name "Good Ride"?

Google for who makes that brand of tire?
