Remote starter for 2000 Civic EX

Hi all, I would like to see if any of you can recommend a two-way remote starter with extended range and an alarm for a 2000 Honda Civic EX. I would like to try to buy one online instead of at the install place since they want an arm and a leg for their products. From what I understand you have to be careful about the starters that you buy since they can mess up your car? I am not an expert in any of this so any advice would be great. Thanks!!!

Re: Remote starter for 2000 Civic EX

most alarm wont kill your starter, i blame that on the installer, if half *** they wont connect the tach wire so the remote starter keep cranking even the car has started,
if u connect the tach wire the remote starter will stop the crank as of it sense the car has started using the signal from the tachometer wire,

Re: Remote starter for 2000 Civic EX

Well I really have no clue about anything that has to do with the install itself except for I know that they need to know what they're doing and these guys are well known in my city which is also probably why they are so expensive and why I at least want to try to purchase the product online to save me some $$$. They quoted me at $500 with install for what I want....

Your best bet is to buy the remote start at a shop and have that same shop install it! Also get a name brand system! This way you can have a warranty on everything! Most alarm manufactures will void the warranty when the system is purchased online and if something does go wrong in a case like this the installer will quickly say it's the alarms fault! You will be stuck paying more labor and shipping charges to have it repaired!

Re: Remote starter for 2000 Civic EX

I do like the Vipers at least based on the description and what I am looking for. I just got another quote from another shop that does these that I was referred to by a friend and they quoted me $350 with install. I did not ask the brand of the starter so I will have to check on that then to make sure it's a good one and if so I am think that sounds pretty good.... I will post back to let everyone know what I went with and what I think.

Re: Remote starter for 2000 Civic EX

I've been looking into 2 way remote starter alarms as well,
And I really like the Viper 5701, you can buy it from certain places for under $200, and have bestbuy install it for $150

And the best part is, if anything goes wrong, you can always bother bestbuy, and they'll help you out

Re: Remote starter for 2000 Civic EX

Amazon's got it for $207.99 right now... but like someone else said the warranty might be void if something goes wrong since I bought it online? I will ask what brand that place plans on putting in that quoted me $350. Hopefully a good one like this because I do like the Viper products from what I can tell at least.

Re: Remote starter for 2000 Civic EX

The VSS5000 Smart Start Security looks amazing (someone mentioned this one before also)! It was $500 or $600 on the Viper website but $279 on Amazon and it says that is coming straight from Viper. Since that is the case obviously I have to take it somewhere to have it installed since they don't do it so would there still be problems with exercising the warranty if something happens even though I bought it straight from Viper through Amazon? Hope that makes sense....

Hmm really?
Youre using the bestbuys with geeksquad install correct?
Ive had absolutely no problems with my local bestbuy, professional install and walkthrough
They even offer to remove their install for life if you decide to go back to stock for free
Had my deck and amp installed cos i was lazy

I had my sub in the trunk and the guy even hooked it up and setup the amp for me
I guess it really depends store to store

Re: Remote starter for 2000 Civic EX

Local shop quoted me $350 including install for a SkyTek two way remote start with alarm. I don't know anything about SkyTek but checked out the site and looks decent....

The reviews on Amazon for the VSS5000 SmartStart were all horrible. Everyone said they had problems with the service going down and since it runs off the cell signal if the service goes down they can't start the car. Anyone have any experience with this, good or bad?
