Hi,
noticed idle was a bit rough, replaced plugs still same, HT lead seem ok all cylinders appear to be firing....
but i smell petrol/gas when driving and the acceleration seems to have a huge lag
i drive a honda civic ek4 2000 year 1.6 vti 50k miles on the clock
its drinking fuel and using some oil :/
any ideas what the issue could be?

CEL on? Did you check for fuel leaks?

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

In my area (rust belt, USA) we see cars that old rusting out brake and fuel lines under the car. If it's really losing fuel fast, see if there's liquid pouring out?

im in the UK this is EU model and i think it may be my manifold as its getting loud
i had a friend look it over but the cat does look pretty rusted, no leaks tho....
i can see no liquid pooring out
no engine light, but will check 02 sensor

Hi again,
had the manifold cover off, discover 1 bolt is lose on right hand side, and another is missing the nut!
Lots of black carbon/soot build up around ill post a few pics
gasket has probably gone also, taking it to the shop tomorrow fingers crossed a couple of bolts and a new gasket!

Ah, it sounds as though you have been smelling exhaust fumes rather than raw gasoline (petrol).
