97 LX Radiator fan doesn't come on. Even with AC on. Never Overheats, however?

Hey you smart guys (: New here, site seems to be such a superb resource.

I don't think I've ever seen my radiator fan spin since I have go the car in January. My temp needle is always around the lower third, so it definitely doesn't get hot.

My friend, a mechanic said, that if I turn on the AC, that the the radiator fan should be coming on as well. Is this correct info for this model Honda?

Should I be concerned?

On a side note, I had to replace one of the coolant hoses. I wonder if that can affect the fan since it's part of the same system?

Thanks guys.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Welcome to the site

So how many fans DO run when you turn on your AC??

To answer your question, NO because this is one of the few cars set up with independently operated fans..

Your AC condensor and radiator should sit side-by-side in the front of the engine compartment, each unit has its own cooling fan, and each fan is independently operated only when its own system needs it.

Use of the AC will only turn on the condensor fan.
High engine temp will only turn on the radiator fan.

Make sure each fan is able to and actually does operate when needed though.
It can take a long time for the radiator fan to come on if you just let it sit and idle. If there is any breeze at all blowing through the front of the car it could be enough airflow to negate the need for the radiator fan for quite a while.
