Rep Power: 0 97 Civic: At my wits end and so are the mechanics
1997 Honda Civic EX (V-tec)... Now my son's car. Automatic. 160,000 miles. Problem: Front passenger side brake sounds like it's periodically rubbing against something when braking. Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh during revolution of tire. Both front pads and rotors have been changed 5 times in less than two years. New front cailpers, too! Mechanics can't figure it out. Tires look good. Bad rim? How can you tell? Mechanics keep saying rotor is warped. I can't believe that any more. And if they are correct, something must be causing the rotor to warp. (Please don't blame it on a puddle of water.) Anybody have any idea of what could be causing this rubbing noise when braking. This noise gets louder the hotter the brakes get -- if that's a clue. This is getting ridiculous. Can't believe that three different mechanics can't figure this out. They just can't get to the root of this problem. Anyone have any ideas? I'm grasping at straws here. Help! Thanks.

splash shield behind rotor, possible bad wheel bearing by the sounds of it.
Put the front of the car on jack stands and put it in gear, watch the rotation of the wheel and see if its wobbly for a bent rim.
FYI, you need a new mechanic

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
