Radiator fan not coming on.

My radiator cracked the other day so installed a new one. This was my first go at working on my car, so i have been reading up on DIY manuals. I'm pretty inept at grease monkey work, but with a little help i got the job done.

I was running the car to bleed the air out, and i noticed that the fan did not kick on after about 30 minutes and the car was starting to over heat. I turned the AC on and the fan still didn't come on. I checked the power at the fan plug with my multimeter, and it wasn't getting any power.

I checked the fuses, switched the relays up and still no go on the fan.

I then used the paper clip trick to bypass the radiator fan switch and the fan came on.

My question is....Does this mean the radiator fan switch is the only culprit or could there be other problems? I'm sorry for my auto ignorance, but i don't want to drop 30$ on a new one if that isn't the issue.

Re: Radiator fan not coming on.

most all d, b h and f series fan switches are the same, find a buddy who has one you can try, or order a new one. Even if the switch isn't the same, plug it in and turn the key on, use a lighter to heat the end of the switch up, and hopefully kicking on the fan.

Until you get a new switch, just keep the paper clip in the plug so your fan is always on when the key is on, so it doesn't overheat.

Re: Radiator fan not coming on.

it will only run when the key is on. it's not going to hurt it, unless you leave it that way for a long time. I've had mine running like that all summer, while I keep having to fix other issues
