Rep Power: 0 engine stiffener bracket.
I need to remove the oil pan to fix the leaky gasket.
In order to get to a couple of bolts I need to remove the engine stiffener bracket between the engine (D16Y8) and automatic transmission. It is shaped like a C. See here for a pic. it's labeled 1:

Do I need to support the transmission (or engine) when I remove it? The factory service manuals I have say nothing on that.
Also, this is a 1996 Civic EX. Am I correct that the oil pan has a liquid gasket? Is RTV ok to use for that?
Thank you, as always.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

Item #8 here goes with the aluminum pan
But my service manual says to use RTV in addition to the gasket (D16Y5, D16Y8).
RTV: Hondabond, or Permatex Ultra Gray.
Um, see what's there when you take yours apart. Put it back together the same way.
