Hi,
Read through all the treads that I could find on VSS. 96 LX and the speedometer bounces and sticks around 20 mph but only occasionally. Seems it may be the VSS?? Can they be cleaned (how) or is it a replace (best place to purchase). Car is new to my daughter and this is the only symptom thus far.
thanks

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: Vss???
Got a CEL on?
P0500 or P0501 code??
No? Not a VSS problem.
Probably needs a speedometer..

Re: Vss???
No CEL = no code. Need a speedo head (most likely).
Speedo could be cheap and easy, or expensive and difficult. Depends on your wallet and your abilities. It's a cakewalk for me.

Not sure of the price of cake, but 122.00 is expensive...is there a write up somewhere on pulling the speed???
Are there other sources? Is this a common problem, or is getting a used one an option??
thanks

I do it for a living, the job is a cakewalk for me.
Site search here, google, youtube? Surely someone somewhere has made a video.

Junkyard will be "iffy".
Be careful with used parts. I looked in a catalog and found a half dozen different choices for a coupe alone.
Are you handy with electronics and soldering?

Re: Vss???
I just can't answer those questions. I did not bother to search for other answers.
I work for a dealer, there would only be one guaranteeable repair choice in our shop.
