Rep Power: 0 CV boots torn
I recently had some new tires installed on my 98 Honda Civic DX.
The mechanic noted that I have torn CV boots and the "rack bellows" is torn.
I had the CV boots repaired once already, years ago.
How serious is this? I understand it is quite expensive to repair and I do not want to spend a lot of money of a 14 year old car. I don't hear any squeaking or noise from under the car.
Thanks!

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: CV boots torn
You can probably get complete cheapo axles from DangerZone for under $50 each.
But remember, they are cheap for a reason.

Re: CV boots torn
I had a torn CV boot on my toyota trunk for 15 years... it started making some noise at about 13 years. It's not an 'ezone' approved fix but if you really don't want to spend anymore money on the car then it helps to pack the torn CV boot with with grease every spring and fall.
BTW - your CV joint will start to make alot of noise when it's not happy anymore.

I even wasted real CV grease to do it.
Recently.
More than once.
I'm not going to do that for a paying customer though.
I won't even suggest doing anything like that for a customer.

Re: CV boots torn
I used to just take my grease gun and stick it in the rip and pump it until I got bored.
@OP it's not a 'fix' either....just prolonging the inevitable.
