newb(ice) question... please help

i'm still new to ice.. so... well i already have aftermarket speakers and hu.. i hav a sub and a mono amp... now my question about the amp wiring is... if i buy an amp for my speakers(front and back).. do i need to buy an amp kit again? i mean do i have to buy the power line? and wire it to the battery(agaiN)? thanks!

You can buy a power distribution block (i think thats what its called).
And also a ground distribution block.

so what did you do with yours? is that thing like waht you put in the cig lighter socket and you get 2-4 more ac's?i mean is it the same concept?

This is what you need. Its called a distrobution block. Even Radio Shack sells them.

It will take your existing power wire in the rear of the car and split it for multiple amplifiers.

Depending on the size wire you have run now you might be ok. Tell us your amps and then we can tell you what size wire you need coming to the battery the the splitter.

well. i have infinity 605cs at the front and infinity 652i at the back... my hu is a sony cdx-m730...i plan to change this soon though(hu)

with those speakers you will want a 50-75 x 4, also, how big is your sub amp and what gauge wire are you using right now?

... i think its a 4guage.. what do you mean by my sub amp? you mean the kicker 400.1? i don't know the exact measurements but it's not that big... also... i'm having distortion problems(when i trun it up real high-speakers-not the sub).. will an amp eliminate the distortion?

When he said size of the amp he was reffering to wattage.

I have a Kicker 400.1 and a Kicker 150.2 in my car. I run 4 gauge to the back, then split it with the monster splitter I showed you earlier.

If you only had 8 gauge running to the back then you would wanna upgrade it to 4 gauge so it could handle the power needs of both amplifiers.

An amp on you fronts will not eliminate distortion. They can still distort on an amp. No amp or speaker is immune from this. The catch is the speakers will be able to go louder before they do distort.

so it's ok if i go for a bigger guage wire? what if the amp that i will be buying says it's recommended for an 8 guage?

i'm just having problems with my mids.. i love the tweets but the bass on the mids is not good...that's why i thought having an amp for the speakers will eliminate the distortion.. thanks!

Amplifier power wire ratings are a minimum that is recommended.

Any wire bigger is ok.

The point is if you have 2 amps that require 8 gauge there are two options. Two runs of 8 gauge or one run of 4 gauge to the trunk plus a splitter running 8 gauge from there to each amp.
