i was trying to get 6.5 mb quart q's installed in the front doors of my 2002 civic ex. I've seen in guides that 6.5's fit in our cars but apparently mb quart uses oversized baskets i've been told so they won't fit. i went to a shop to see if they could do it, by cutting away at the metal and they said no it's a bad idea to cut that much metal away, they said i need to sell them and go buy 5.25's. I don't exaclty have the money to go out and spend another $600 on these speakers. i always thought install shops are supposed to be able to do custom jobs such as cutting holes in metal, am i at the wrong shop maybe? what do you all think

Cut the metal and mount them on MDF Baffles..I have Rainbow Pro components and they as well are 6.75" Speakers...cut the metal!!![IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]
I was able to fit my PSD 216s, but it was a royal pain in the arsh! I cut the speaker rings off of the door with a dremel. I then used a 1 inch spacer made for 6.5 inch speakers , but the speakers did not fit. So I sanded down a little of the inside of the spacer ring with the dremmel in order for the speaker to fit. I then used some dynamat and foam tape to give a lil extra space and...it BARELY fits. In fact I am not sure if the speakers are touching the door, which is bad because of some roughness left when I cut off the speaker ring. The tweater fit very nice though in the tweeter pod...check my pics.
It sounds good and I guess that is what matters!
Ohh, I just noticed that you said you have Qs, which probably have a bigger magnet.

You did it the hard way..[IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]..a 1" MDF Spacer would have worked better..[IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/IMG]. Dremelling the rings on the doors is a must though for the surrounds to clear
what is the best way to cut the metal? So basically if you are saying that i should cut the metal, then i should be able to get a shop to cut the metal for me right? I don't know why this one place didn't want to cut my car
just used aviation snips..then painted over the edge with black enamel spray paint lined the MDF Spacer with silicone..bolt it to the door..screwed the speaker into the MDF..
