Want to remove heavy sub box- advice?

So I have 2 JL Audio 10's in a box w/a 4oowatt Alpine amp and LOVE the bass that mother puts out, but it weighs so damn much and I want it out- is there a specific bass tube that I can hook up that will satisfy my bass-craving? OR is there a way to keep them without the box- maybe something custom? Thanks. To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

A fiberglass enclosure would be lighter, you could build yourself one of those.

fiberglass is heavier, unless you build directly (and i mean DIRECTLY onto the spare tire well) and can therefore use less glass to get no flexing.

is yoru problem acceleration? or handling?

if handling is your problem, try to locate the box as close as you can to the wheel wells. the more weight that sits on the wheels as opposed to basically on top of your liscence plate, the better off you will be handling wise.

if you are just looking to lighten your load, rebuild your box out of .75 inch furniture grade birch, its far lighter and also far stiffer than MDF, all at a nice price tag of $50ish for a 4'x8' sheet.

or you can try running your woofers freeair, only wood youd use would be the baffle, but you lose the ability to put thinks in both the trunk and the cabin at the same time (like a bike) and risk having your woofers sound bad, as I dont think anyone has tried successfully (or even tried for that matter) running those woofers freeair.
