Another Newbie Head Unit Discussion

Hey guys, didn't want to hijack the other thread so I figured I'd make my own.

So right now I've got a no-name aftermarket head-unit hooked up to a Kenwood amp in the back and I want to upgrade.

I have a 7gen coupe so I was looking to get a double din.

To begin with,

I'd like a touch screen dvd/cd/mp3 one but I'm debating whether or not to get one that has navi as well. (I've got a separate GPS that works great atm)

What ones do you guys suggest? I'm on a tight budget but I'm not desperate enough to settle for the $300 no-name ones I see on eBay from overseas.

Also, would the installation be hard if I've already got an aftermarket set-up with wires grounded, etc?

Any feedback appreciated, thanks.

Re: Another Newbie Head Unit Discussion

I have the Alpine IVA-W203... It's a FANTASTIC deck if you have the money. I think it runs for about 1000 including GPS or about 700 dollars if you don't get the GPS. It has features, plays DVDs, GPS available, I-pod hookup... it's fully loaded and I love it. The picture is fantastic, the only thing you have to be careful of is glare in this car. It's hard to find a nice double din dvd player for 300 bucks though. Pioneer makes some pretty good ones that are a bit lower but your sacrificing quality and features.

If your going all out i recommend the IVA-W505.

Re: Another Newbie Head Unit Discussion

i would recomend jenson that's what i have the flip out model but its lacking GPS which sucks balls. id say if you already got the portable one keep it and get a unit without gps there a hell of alot cheaper. i personally would sell the portable one and get a all in one unit. one main reason why i want a built in gps is for the fact that you can bang the music and it will automatically cut the music for the voice guidance .

If you have tinted windows a lot of problems with the glare are solved.
