Max depth of front speakers?

Looking to install either some image dynamics ctx65cs components, or possibly the polk momos. Problem is, they are 2.75-3" for the depth of the speaker. I know I will need a spacer(assuming .75 mdf ring), but will that be enough to fit the speaker itself? To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

Re: Max depth of front speakers?

you can use up to a 1 inch spacer (use plastic, mdf is wood and will rot from water over time) AND shave the plastic off the back of the door panel. theres a stupid plastic lip around the speaker grill that serves no purpose. that will give you some more room so the panel goes back on properly.

Re: Max depth of front speakers?

if you look at my DIY, you'll see some measurements. it's in my sig. i used 3/4" MDF, but gear is right, 1" will fit most likely. you need to look at the top mount height also to see how much it will stick out past the spacer.

Re: Max depth of front speakers?

if you go with 1 inch, you must trim the back of the door panel otherwise it wont completely snap back together.

Re: Max depth of front speakers?

Ok thanks guys. I was just wondering how big of a spacer you can put in these civics. Looking at Morel, Hertz, and the higher end Polk speakers, the magnets are at least 2.5 inches. Guess I will have to use a 1" spacer.

Re: Max depth of front speakers?

the clearance without a spacer is 1.875" between the door panel and the window when rolled down.

Re: Max depth of front speakers?

I noticed the speaker I want to purchase is an oversized 6.5(6 3/4). Any of you fit similar components in the door of this size?

Here is the specs of the Polk mm6501s:

i've got Infinity Reference CS6010's and was able to get them in with a 3/4" MDF spacer and no modifications. looking at the pics of what you linked, i think depth wise, it will fit with a 3/4" spacer (very tight), but a 1" would give more room. either way, based on the pic and how the back of the basket comes straight down, and then tapers flat, i think you're going to have to cut the opening of the metal in the door to make it work. see how the back of this Rockford Fosgate is more tapered? so by the time the magnet penetrates the door opening, the diameter is much smaller than the whole speaker. i think you'll have the opposite. if you're prepared for that, then cool. go for it. can't go wrong with Polk's or Infinity's IMO.

Re: Max depth of front speakers?

Purchased these from Sonic Electronix(free shipping ): http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...PPI+356CS.html

Looks like I will be fine with a 3/4" mdf spacer!!! Can't wait to run these puppies!!!
