Rep Power: 0 2003 Civic LX Lock Problem
So I have a problem with the locking mechanism on the driver's side door. It would seem that the only way I can lock or unlock the door is with the keyless entry or when the door is closed and I use the power lock button. I cannot manually lock the door with the latch or use the key in the door to lock or unlock. So I had the door panel off trying to figure out the issue, already tried WD-40 which did not work. But I noticed that the metal bar attached to the inside door handle affects the ability to lock or unlock the door manually. If I pull on the inside handle just a little bit, I can use the manual latch on the door and the key works in the door. But when the handle is in its resting position, it doesn't work. Only the keyless entry. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to fix this? Thanks

you can't fix it. that's normal operation the way honda designed it. it's to keep people from locking their keys in the car. you can pull the handle and hit the power lock or the lever, but that's it. thats the way it's supposed to be.

I thought that at first too. But that doesn't explain why my key doesn't work in the door. It works fine in the passenger door. And it will work if i pull on the handle a bit from the inside. The key is fairly new, within the last year.

I believe that's still SOP for the door and the locks. I think it's got to more with the door latch knowing if the door is shut or not when it comes to if you have to have the handle pulled to lock it when the door is open either via pushing down on the lock from the inside or using the key to lock it from the outside while the door is open. I've tried this out my self when i first noticed it (after the actuator died on me).
