Has anyone used the yellow fog lamps from Ebay?

Hi,

Just got my 02 Civic LX 4Dr and will be using it for commuting over the Altamont Pass in Northern Cali that gets heavy fog in the mornings.

Anyway, has anyone bought and used the "Yellow Fog Lamps" from Ebay? It says, it fits non Si models.

Will this do the job of providing ample fog lighting?

Thanks!

Re: Has anyone used the yellow fog lamps from Ebay?

its more for show, like 90% of oem fogs. you might get a tad more foreground light, but dont expect miracles. if you want a decent fog you have to go aftermarket like hella micro de and those get expensive. but these yellow ones will still make your car a bit easier for others to spot.

Wouldn't hids make the fogs worthwhile?

it would also blind everyone on the road. the oem fogs already do a great job of throwing glare everywhere without hid.

I have them, they suck. You can only see maybe 6 inches beyond your hood if you sit up as straight as possible... they suck balls. You'r better off doing a projector retrofit on them... and get clear fogs, the yellow ones end up looking like shit. I hate them now and when I bought them I thought they were the coolest thing in the world.

Re: Has anyone used the yellow fog lamps from Ebay?

This sucks! I really don't wanna spend more than $50 and I dread drilling and cutting into the bumper thats why I'm considering a factory fit.

So, the yellow projection you get from this set has 0% effect on the fog?

Did they use a 55W or lower?

Thanks!

Re: Has anyone used the yellow fog lamps from Ebay?

like triz said even with the real expensive oem fogs, you only get extra light 5-6 inches beyond the bumper if you sit straight up. if your lying back, no light. they suck for any practical purpose, except glaring other drivers. if you are looking for a real fog light, those have very bright foreground light and wide beam, but you will be struggling to see into the distance. good fog lights are for severe weather only, and should be used without the headlights. even if you buy the best fog light in the world, youre gonna have to slow down. i used to have projector fog lights that were brighter and projected further than my headlights. but i never used em at all and ended up ditching them for a show version just for looks. with the best fogs, you will not be able to see anything past their foreground light, maybe 20 ft in front of the car. in 90% of driving conditions, its best to just use your lo beams.

heres a pic of my old fogs, nearly double the output of the stock headlamps. but it just didnt make sense to have that much light. in fact every time i would try to use them, i felt more scared of hitting something i couldnt see.

Re: Has anyone used the yellow fog lamps from Ebay?

Clear lense, yellow bulbs. Only used them in really bad fog 2 times going upstate ny. Couldnt even drive with my low beams on it was so thick. With just the fogs i was able to drive. Obviously slower and more cautiously than normal, but i could see and i got home. Heres a pic. they dont glare like that and they're not blinding. its just the way the pic came out.

Re: Has anyone used the yellow fog lamps from Ebay?

Hey, I bought them and I like them. They're not really all that bright on the road, but it adds a lil light on the sides of your car. They are just more show, but they last a long time. I gotta order more though, the yellow covers cracked when it got like 34bellow here but ill be ordering more once it actually gets warm here. just my 5cents

Re: Has anyone used the yellow fog lamps from Ebay?

I got them for my 05 2-door-

They are OK, the problems are:
They break easy

They don't just bolt in like a stock Honda part would

They came with absolutely shitty bulbs and I had to fork out 35 more for bulbs

The "factory" style switch they came with took EXTENSIVE mods to make it fit in the dash and work

you have to cut the thick plastic inserts molded into you bumper cover

they are just curved yellow plastic, with no proper "lens" so they just blast light out in every direction -except the one you need (forward)

the way they came wired- the light inside the switch was on 24-7 not just when the key was on, I had to re-do it

The Pros are:
They are cheap $$ ( i bought my second set thanx to the asshole that lets his dog commit suicide in front of me a cpl weeks ago)

the wiring is nice and the plugs fit right in the fuse-block

they do look cool?

you get everything in one kit and don't need extra brackets and crap (besides needing new bulbs)

yeah but i dont have em like that anymore. theyre blacked out inside and no shield, its just for show with yellow bulb. at least then i can use em without adding more light in the foreground

even with OEM style, you'll still have to cut at least part of the bumper to make them fit on an 02. there's instructions floating around this site that shows what you have to cut. it's more than just the small black section though. you'll have to cut into the painted area. better hope you don't cut too much! after analyzing all this, i decided to get the blazer projector fogs and put HID's in them. there's a link in my sig about how i did mine. i still have an extra set of the projector fogs i never used. i bought 2 sets, but never bought the truck i was going to put the second set on.

You suck. I just pulled up pics of your hid fog retrofit and that feeling I burried months ago came right back. PM me links to the fogs and HID kit you bought would you. I think I'll look at doing this for really this time. My fogs cracked so why not.

i have these lights. they don't look yellow in the pictures, but they are pretty bright in person. for $30 you can't go wrong. plus, you can always change the bulbs themselves if they aren't bright enough

Mine are eBay clear lens fogs with an OEM switch and Luminics yellow bulbs. Like some of the other guys have said, it's mostly a "fill-in" sort of light, mostly on the sides. I've just gotten another set of Luminics, Ultra White, and I'm going to try them just for comparison; I do like the yellow light, though.

Re: Has anyone used the yellow fog lamps from Ebay?

Well, I tried the Ultra White Luminics bulb (left), and it's okay...it's a nice "white" white, not bluish. It actually almost matches my SilverStar Ultras...

The only thing is, it doesn't seem as bright as the yellow Luminics bulb I have in there already (right). So, after about 15 minutes, I put the yellow bulb back in. Oh, I saw that somebody here installed yellow parking bulbs, and I thought it looked pretty cool, so I copied 'im

I dont know about geek-squad-mans order, but mine fit perfectly in my 02 sedan, I even just used the stock wiring harness. It was litterally one plug, 4 screws, and they were in. No cutting or anything of any sort!

01-03 and 04-05 have different shape, different mounting, etc.

Yeah, but just as long as you order the right set (for your year) then I'm pretty sure you would be fine, well at least for the 01-03 cars they should bolt in fine

I put mine in a 05 VP that had no wires, no plugs and no switches from the factory, I had to run it all (it all came with the kit)

And that would explain why they fit so poorly, their prob for an 03 style, cause they fit horribly in my 05-

01-03 fog lights are oval shaped and not triangular.
