Talking New Radio and Radar integration.

So as most of you know I redid my interior with a LOT of carbon fiber. I then wanted a new radio, not just any radio. I wanted the Kenwood Flagship din unit.

Then I added:

Along with the Metra Double Din Dash kit and the Honda pocket:

Here is a before pic:

I took the center dash out and and then ISO mounted the new radio on the bottom with the new full size pocket on top.

I like it this way much better. There is no glare off the radio and I have a full size pocket..

Here are some more pics of the radio.

CD is CD, EXT Media is the music on my phone (the Blue tooth piece will allow me to stream from my phone), and aux is the axillary input.

STDBY is stand by (off but with lights and graphics), Tuner is the radio, and USB is the USB cable (I have an 80 gig HD in the glove box).

It also has 512mb of internal memory, I can either copy from the USB or rip directly from a CD

Here are a couple of the Graphics. I can upload my own pics and videos or use the default.

It also has a built in Dynograph.....

Re: New Radio and Radar integration.

So after I did the Radio I decided I wanted to integrate the Passport Radar control box into my steering column..

Before:

It was quite bright while driving at night.

So I took the top off the steering column and then drilled a couple holes in the back side (side facing the actual gauges).
I then took the little control box apart and hot glued the little board inside the column covor so that the lights shine out against the gauges and so that the little mute button sticks out. Shit way when it is on I get a nice blue glow against my gauges and when it is going off it blinks red. I can also reach my hand around the back side and hit the mute button... I love it.
After pics:

I think it is much cleaner like this...

Re: New Radio and Radar integration.

The most entertaining (and perhaps least practical) feature has to be the G-Analyzer function, a built-in motion detector to measure the gravitational forces acting on the head unit, which it then translates into graphics and text data. According to Kenwood, G-Analyzer (the G stands for Graphic Motion) can measure and analyze a car's horsepower. It appears that after a driver has entered the class and weight of a particular car, the X991 will calculate horsepower by measuring lateral acceleration for 15 seconds, giving the result in the form of a graph with the highest reading (that is, the point of maximum acceleration) saved for future reference.

Here you go, a demo video thing....:
http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Demos/GMA

The G-Analyzer can be found on the following models.
KDC-X991 KDC-X891 KDC-X791 KDC-MP735U KDC-MP635

Re: New Radio and Radar integration.

The actual Radar detector is still on the dash... It is just the Passport has an additional remote if you will. I integrated that part into the steering column.

Re: New Radio and Radar integration.

NICE ICE install! Very cleanly done! the Passport Radar control box is better like that. I just don't like when people install all these things, and have little boxes sticking to the dash all over the place! Looks a hell of a lot cleaner this way! +1 for you!
