Re: New System

Edit...i posted earlier that I am not having any problems with my setup, well I spoke too soon. My two amps are pulling 800 watts and the alternator in our cars produces 70amps=840watts. So for 8 months, I was slowly draining down the battery and not producing nearly enough power for my system. My car has been in a constant struggle for power between my car and amp. I'm now getting a 140amp alternator. I was advised that anything more powerful could possibly damage the car or cause it to shake (idk why). I also was told I need to get a power supply for my system before the guy will revamp my alternator?? Have no idea why and am desperately researching the problem.

will post results

Re: New System

Hey greenbay, I just wanted to put my 2 cents in on this. Before I bought my new subs I had 2 12w1v1. These are JL's original w1's. They have been hitting hard and clear from 2001 til recently. The only reason that they have been replace was b/c the amp was more powerful then the subs and the subs were actually blown. Since JL makes such good quality subs though you could never tell unless u turned of the door speakers and just listened to them.

I just replaced them with Rockford Fosgate P2's. They were cheap and matched the specs of the amp perfectly. For the price they are very nice. I don't believe that they have the quality the JL's did. All in all though for the price the JL's are the biggest bang for your buck. They are the tightest sounding subs I have ever heard. They aren't the loudest but I plan on upgrading to w3's once I get more spending money.

Re: New System

Thanks for the advice mrplow. I just got done putting in 2 12" Alpine type Rs and an Alpine MRP-m850 amp, giving them 500 wrms. I wish I could give em 1000, but 500's plenty. They're pretty clean subs, and i'm happy with my purchase. Eventually, I'll prolly buy JL, if and when my Alpines bust - which may take a while lol. I'm really happy with the type R's tho - i'd reccomend em to anyone on a somewhat tight budget looking for some decent bass.

Re: New System

Yeah I definitely love Alpine. I have the CDA-9886 headunit and just bought two sets of Alpine Type-X components with the 1000/4 amp to come. One thing I don't like about Alpine is their subs. They sound great but they are all higher powered subs. They have the power but are no way as tight as the JL's are. Glad to hear you like them. I have thought about them but I like tight clear hitting base and may skip on subs all together b/c o the components I have. They have a frequency response of like 15 which isn't bad for door speakers. Keep me updated on if anything happens or if you ever get it spl tested what the results are.
