2002 civic OEM radio not working

On my 2002 civic lx with OEM radio with cassette deck, I had periodic issues with my radio not turning on specifically after it rained. One thing I was able to do to get the radio working was to unplug the radio with the key turned on acessory or while the car was on and after 5 minutes replug the radio connecter back in and the radio would work again, although the radio had all its presets deleted, it would work and I would use it again until the same thing occurred again. However today I tried the same method and the radio has not worked since.

When the problem first occurred, I checked the radio fuse and also the back up fuse, disconnected battery then reconnected, however none of them seemed to have fixed the issue. I read this thread:
Problems with OEM radio...
And have the same exact issue, when the lights are turned on. THe radio lights are lit, but no power to the radio or clock. However in my case changing the fuses did not work, I tried multiple 7.5amp fuses and different backup fuses by switching them around, but it did not do anything.

Trying to figure out the problem, would it be my headunit has gone bad? Is there any way to determine that the headunit is bad or the wiring is bad before I buy another head unit? THe ground wire isnt loose either. And the headunit is recieving power as it lights up when my lights are on. If I do get a replacement HU, would a 2door HU work of the same year?

Any ideas would be helpful Thanks. Also I have not done any mods to the car, just a bone stock 5spd 4 door.

Re: 2002 civic OEM radio not working

sorry i can't answer most of your questions other than your last one...

yes, a coupe (2dr) OEM radio will work. the only thing is though that it will ligth up orange-red, instead of the sedan yellow-green. If you are needing to replace it, just give a quick look around for the SE civic radio (MP3/WMA, 6-disc, and AUX imput. I found one on ebay for $100 shipped ) only thing is that it was from a coupe, so lights up orange-red...

here's one now!:

Re: 2002 civic OEM radio not working

thanks it looked like it would have worked, would have liked he orange red, but just bought a 20 dollar used same head unit of the 2001-2002 cassette on ebay and then narrow down the problems.

Strange thing happened today. I had a feeling when I went to drive my car today that the radio was going to work, and what do you know, it was working again. Just crazy...heh

how long have you had the car? did you buy it used? just thinking that if it was used, the previous owner may have gone and did their own wiring
