Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
its just X5 projectors and a bmw shroud for the exterior. the actual mounting takes alot more effort but if done properly, you can use the stock adjusters to aim it. i just dont have the time to mess with that stuff anymore. that writing around the side says bmw dynamic xenon or something. you can look on ebay for "projector shroud" and get quite a few matches, but they are expensive since it comes out of whole headlamps.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
has anyone tried 50w ballasts and bulbs i wonder? supposed to be brighter than 35w oem, but again quality issues come up, and the bulb may not be positioned in the exact spot for the best output. idk, and its expensive too

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
well i was thinking for oem projectors. it would be a glare fest in halogen housings. they are quite a bit brighter than normal 35w bulb/ballasts. thats the only 50w kit ive seen unless you know of a better one.

its really hard to find retro in our stock lights lol. here is one after reading through 72 pages of honda techs hid thread. i think ima try the osram hyper H4 halogens for $40 (65w, 1350 lumens compared to stock 55w 1000 lumens) boosted in my stock lights, and if thats not enough, or i end up messing up the zeta or the headlamps, im gonna just save up and have someone retro TL projectors in stock housing all chrome. kinda like this guys.

didn't you have a valeo hid retrofit before? i thought you just sold them.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
yea HAD valeos, those got sold quite a while ago. barely lasted a year til a ballast got water damaged, and i got sick of the subpar output. my halogens now have more light and will soon have even better with the new bulbs. but if i do get a retro it will be with decent projectors not some valeo/e46/tsx junk.

actually the tsx's are better then the TL's. The tsx's have a clear lens vs the frosted lens of the TL. The TL's are considered one of the better bixenon projectors, just under the LS460 projectors. The tsx's have a sharper cutoff and give off more color then the TL's. The TL's i believe give off a slightly wider beam due to the larger diameter of the lens.
I've had both the bixenon e46's and the tsx's. I think the e46's light up more of the road and light up signs better. I use to light all four lanes of traffic if i was on the road by myself.
The tsx has a sharp cutoff and gives off more color. Both projectors light up the road well...i wouldn't consider them junk.

i have. they make a big difference...almost (i did say almost) good as my 70w denso ballast...
but to answer ur question, they are noticeably brighter. ive compared it on TSX projectors side bi side...
go on retrosoultion.com (sp) and buy them. its worth it, i use it with my 4300k oem phillips bulbs.

to be honest, i think the TSX has a more even foreground than the e46 bi-xe.
ive retro the e46 into my friends CL and i did a side to side comparision as well as a road drive test.
and.......TSX bixenon FTW!

i agree the foreground is better, but i like how the e46's light up signs from further away due to the dot line. I didn't really notice it until i switched to the tsx. Only way i could get the same kind of lighting distance was to aim the tsx projectors higher. I'm not into blinding oncoming traffic. its just a compare and constrast. I'm happy with my Tsx's.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion
Tsx is way better than any bosch projector (or valeo) lol, but its by no means anywhere near the best. just because its colorful, doesnt mean it performs well. lets put this to rest before it gets out of hand. TL on the left, tsx on the right, same bulbs pair, with a divider in the middle to separate the beam. totally stock projectors, not modified in any way. clear lens tsx, fresnel tl. you gonna tell me the tsx is better? clear lens and color dont always translate to better light output.

what did you get fixed (or not) for $166? and what went out again? the relay harness will probably fix the flickering if it's just a problem of the ballasts not getting enough constant voltage. if it's a bad connection or a problem with your electrical charging system, then no, the harness won't fix your flickering. either way, the harness will prevent you from burning up your stock wires, so i HIGHLY suggest getting it anyway.

no it's not. but it's NOT junk either. after having driven with both Valeo's and TSX projectors, i can tell you for a FACT that the TSX are not junk for light output. i've been riding behind them for almost a year and i still love them. i haven't driven stock TL's in person, but i've seen them up close. put side by side with a TSX, sure the TL is brighter. but how many times are you actually going to be doing that while driving down the road? when you're driving by yourself, the TSX are very, very nice. better than any halogen setup.....boosted or not.
