Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion

Uh oh... my left headlight went out... battery was messed up too, but the right headlight still works... ah! What happened?! I don't have a relay harness, do I need one? The car wouldn't start, but there was enough juice to turn the gauges and map lights on. Somebody PM me and help me out? Yaaa... I'm a noob... Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion

yeah you might have damaged the stock wiring. hopefully not but its possible if you didnt use a new harness with thicker wire that can support the extra current. or could be you just didnt have enough power left to fire up both ballasts. they take a ton of power during the first second or two to ignite the bulb.

Yahh hopefully you didn't damage your stock hl wiring... get an eBay relay harness that draws power directly from your battery.. the relay only requires one HL connection that works .. so you'd have to connect it to the Right headlight in this case. gl.

ditto. you can get them for less than $20 on ebay. if you have a 7th gen with H4 bulbs, you NEED to specify that it's ground switching. standard positive switching won't work on our cars. yes, it does matter.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion

I thought about doing the same thing with my TYC's. I would like to go with some sort of HID setup. Is anyone having any luck with the TYC's and an particular HID brand setup? I have silverstars in mine right now and they are ok but I just want HID's. Thanks ahead!

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion

the projector that comes with tyc is for halogen bulb, not hid. it will be terrible with any plug in type kit. its not even great with the halogens lol. you gotta swap out the projector. and thats not easy either since you most likely have to do some custom cutting and mounting.

Yea but it will look so much better than in a stock housing i think. That is the route I am going to go when I have the cash.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion

idk, i dont really like the look of any of the aftermarket projector headlamps. i thought about the all chrome ones but they look rice with the stupid halo. i think the black sonars would look decent if you repainted the insert a dark gloss black and had the turn signal piece professionally chromed. but thats alot of $.

Well my civic is black so the black tyc's just look better than stock in my opinion and it doesn't look flashy or anything to me. I am on the fence as far as color match painting the housing. If the paint could stand up to the heat then why not.

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion

yeah well with hids, it should be no problem since they dont radiate much heat. the bulb itself gets hot, but it gets dissipated quickly. i would just take em to the body shop and do a match for the shrouds. the stock flat black is VERY light color and looks cheap imo. but yea on a black car they would blend in nicely.

Yeah I can see that point of view too but as my car is NYBP and my tails are blacked out 04's it just flows better. On reading up on (electrics?) time with retroing the TYC's it def doesn't look like a walk in the park lol. The only other option would be a totally blacked out stockers. Got any pics of some good retro'd stocks? Would like to see some ideas for shrouds that dont involve stove plates lol

So would purchasing a relay harness help the flickering and the end result of my battery dying? I sent it into Honda to fix for $166 and it went out again... so pissed... could be my battery, but I really doubt it... I'm gonna invest in a relay harness now... should it help the problem?

Re: HID in TYC setup. With no projector conversion

yeah it should. can goto suvlights.com and get a universal fog light relay harness if you dont mind the wire cutting and splicing.

its really hard to find retro in our stock lights lol. here is one after reading through 72 pages of honda techs hid thread. i think ima try the osram hyper H4 halogens for $40 (65w, 1350 lumens compared to stock 55w 1000 lumens) boosted in my stock lights, and if thats not enough, or i end up messing up the zeta or the headlamps, im gonna just save up and have someone retro TL projectors in stock housing all chrome. kinda like this guys.
