DIY Auto Headlight Turnoff?

I wonder if anyone's done this, especially with easily accessible relay for those with PnP HIDs

The 7th Gens have lights that stay on if you turn the engine off.

Wiring a relay that's controlled by ACC wire to the power wire from the HID relay would solve that problem wouldn't it? Or is there something I'm missing?

Also, I've got a PnP kit that ignites everytime I flash my high beams. Anyone with similar issues?

Re: DIY Auto Headlight Turnoff?

no. the 01-03 is a H4 based bulb which only the highbeam or lowbeam turns on at a time... its an either or situation...

the 04-05 are 9006/9005 based.....lowbeam turns on....then highbeam turns on w/ lowbeam stayign on...

ofcourse this can be bypassed in the 01-03

Re: DIY Auto Headlight Turnoff?

you can use the acc wire, but then they will also turn on automatically, and flash off again when you turn the engine over, which is very bad for the ballast. and there is no way to disable flash to pass mechanism without opening up the switch and reworking the circuit.

right you are. I guess it's only useful if you really want to guard against leaving your lights on, which the dealer did once

Re: DIY Auto Headlight Turnoff?

i love having highs and lows on at the same time looks so good when you have a 4300K HID kit for highs and then a 5500K Kit for lows lol.. plus if one bulb on low goes out, you have 3 others

Re: DIY Auto Headlight Turnoff?

i guess the easy way is get a delay timer, set it for 10 secs or something, that way when you start the engine, they will remain on instead of flashing off. and hook the harness to the acc wire and route everything through the timer. its around $20 for the timer, i have one new that i never got a chance to use for anything.

Re: DIY Auto Headlight Turnoff?

The ignition wire (black/yellow) should hold power in crank.

Re: DIY Auto Headlight Turnoff?

but, the ballast will shut down when it gets less than 12v. cranking will drop the power level quite a bit, prolly down to 6v even. i have led markers i designed and they almost completely turn off during starts. theyre wired for 12v so i can guess they must be getting only 6-9v max.

on my 02, there's a really loud and annoying buzzer that sounds if you turn the car off and the lights are on. pretty hard to forget to turn them off with that thing making all that noise.
