gotta use a diode to connect both the low and hi beam ground wires that the car uses to turn them on and off. Place the band side of the diode towards the hi beam wire. This way the low beam will stay on when the hi beams are on, but the hi beams wont be on when the low beams are

If you're going HID, I would suggest checking out HIDplanet.com's forum. If I remember correctly, they have instructions on how to make the proper harnesses.

that's not ground wire dude....ground ballast to a battery or chassis...connet it to wire with i post in the pic....

and yes it's not a good idea to connect ballst to the stock harness....u can burn your stock harness......

okay i have an aftermarket headlight harness thats connected now plug and play with relays already. the stock wires trip the relay, and a thick power wire gets fed to the headlight bulb direct from battery.

. i still dont understand how to wire it. can you make a better pic? okay so i need to connect each ballast to the 12v prong that is hot with lo and hi switch position. that i get now. then i dont use the lo prong. now to wire hi beams, i also need to tap the 12v prong and for the other wire, connect to the hi beam prong? seems like that would be alot of power running through the wires. but if it works my main worry is to not have the lo beam turn off if i bump the switch. i doubt i would ever use hi beam anyway. you know, i think i might even just not hook the hi beam up to make things easy. or put a separate harness with switch on it for emergency.

cant view the thread. okay pretend theres the stock plug, then i have a heavy duty harness from suvlights.com that plugs into stock connector. it has relays, and a large power wire hooked to battery that then goes to a new connector that plugs into the h4 bulb. thats the connector i have up there. the colors are different, but i know which wire for each side is the 12v ON with lo/hi beams. then the other two are lo and hi. which i guess i dont need the lo. i will try and figure out how the harness was made, im guessing theres only one power that feeds both sides.

its from suvlights.com the h4 version not the one in the pic but same idea only with 2 sockets instead of 4. so i should be able to take the 12v wire going to the headlight bulb and connect to the ballast right? and not use the lo beam wire at all. now what about hi beam. it also needs the same 12v wire attached and also the hi beam wire for ground right? thats what i'm nervous about. i dont want hid and hi beam running through the same power wire at the same time. thats why i was just gonna get a new fog light harness from them and wire hi beam separately to a new switch if thats the only way. i was also told not to splice any wires because the hid will melt any tape you use to cover it. so i was gonna make a custom harness with one prong to 12v to plug the ballast into the upgrade wire harness.

okay this is my last try. Is this how they hook up??? From what I read in the electrical manual, the lo and hi prongs are GROUNDS through the dimmer switch. and the 12v is POWER that becomes always hot with the switch in either lo or hi position. If this is correct diagrams, all i need to do is figure out what the prongs are on the upgrade harness, cause they're not color coded. i should be able to tell with a led test light.

THIS IS FOR BALLASTS (stays ON in both lo and hi beam mode)

THIS IS FOR HI BEAM (stays ON only when switch is in HI beam position)

honestly i think its stil going to be easier to use a diode. A diode is an electrical one way road, it will let current flow in one direction but not the other. Why bother messing with extra relays and higher current when you can just alter the signal wires? Whiterabbit did a post about this a long ways back, im sure its on here somewhere.

i decided to just wire the hi beam separately to a new switch inside. i dont want them using the same power wire as the hid ballast anyway, even if i use the diode method. i already have a switch i installed just need a universal harness. then there is no problem of weird stuff happening.
