I asked on this very forum if anyone wanted to contribute small samples of any product they wanted to see tested and there wasn’t a single taker. SecondSkin and RAAMaudio donated samples of their products and I bought the rest. As this develops, I will expand the range of products and the tests I use to compare them.
My interest in this was to create a central point with comparative data from which I could draw conclusions and others could do the same. I personally find it difficult to extract a lot of useful information from confrontational exchanges of the type you referenced. I am not as able as you are to grasp the “depth” contained within.
That being said, I will take issue with two points you make. Dynamat Xtreme is very expensive but can not fairly be called an awful product. It is in every aspect an excellent product. I consider it to be a poor value.
Finally, installation is certainly
a key to effective deadening. There are, however, significant differences between the composition and characteristics of the materials available. Some influence the quality of the installation, some influence the durability of the installation over time and some influence the products usefulness as a dampening agent and secondarily as a barrier.
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the any effort to further our understanding of this topic.
