What size are my door speakers?

I have a 2001 civic and I was wondering what size speaker fits in the front doors? I'm thinking 6 1/2 but I might be wrong.

Just wondering, who EVER said stock front speaker is 6.5"?

6.5" speaker will FIT front door hole but does not FUNCTION properly...Stock speaker is roughly 155mm, meaning it's roughly a 6" speaker. The stock speaker is also built on (embedded) spacer, if I remember it, it is about 1" height by 6" diameter spacer...If you use at least 0.75"x6" spacer and 6" speaker, it will bring the speaker almost to the surface of the PLASTIC door panel.....If you don't use spacer, or put 6.5"+ speaker in it, 2 things might happen.

1. The rubber surround might hit the plastic door trim ring, causing distortion
2. The outer area of speaker (greater than the door trim ring) will fire midbass directly to the plastic panel, causing tons of resonance, cancellations, etc.....

6.5 works just fine in mine with a 1" spacer. You're right however. Its a mutant speaker from the factory lol. Its tricky to make them sound right, but dynamat helps alot.

Just use a 6.5 in the front and you'll be fine. 90% the people on this board are probably using 6.5's in the front.

Is there a sticky for this somewhere?? I always see this question being asked every week or so.

Is there a sticky somewhere?? If not, Megahurtz. Can you make a sticky??

I really didn't find out until the day you told me about drilling stuff...lol......By then I had taken out my doors for half a dozen times....And by now I am almost finished with my Dyn 340 3-way setup with stage height and width set properly.....Almost because I have a hole on my left side door panel...lol....

Forget the spacer idea, if you want to do it right cut the door panel . Dont flip out its not that hard, once you do that then you wont have to worry about speakers hitting door panels and it will look a lot more professional than stuffing a speaker that is too big in a hole that was made for a different size. I built kick pods in mine for 6.5" and put a 4" in the door for the mid-high range plus tweet in factory location. Thats how its done baby

Can you make a 4" in the door sound right for staging? Just wonder....
